I was wondering the same thing. There aren't enough photos here to explain it. However I did find this on the spellbinders website. If you explore each tutorial towards the bottom, each one explains well how this works. It looks like the dies stitch holes (if you want to use the stitch part) so that you can use different threads through the holes to embellish.
