Transparency Film in Layouts?

I want to make my own clear overlay for a layout, but nobody at the companies I phone for specs knows if the ordinary inket transparency film is acid free/ archival. I want to use it over a photo and therefore don't want it to cause any damage to the photo. Has anyone used normal transparency film , or know if it is acid free, or is there a specific product I need to buy?

I have only ever used pre-printed transparencies, so I knew they were acid free. Maybe try looking into scrapbooking companies that make pre-printed ones..? Maybe they sell blank sheets as well.

Thanks for the info. What powder is it that you mentioned to put on the non-inkjet transparency? I don't really want a huge "mission" here - just want to print and be done with it! I've seen so many different types now - write-on, inkjet, laser, copier... Problem is I would also like to use them in a class I'm doing, and I'd hate to use something that would cause damage to my students' photos. It's horribly frustrating - and supplies in South Africa aren't always free-flowing (can get the transparencies, but not the info - but even that I can't get from manufacturers...) I can't dwell on this forever, hope I come right soon...

I just looked at the Avery Inkjet transparency package that I have and it doesn't state what it's made from.
I've used those in my last 2 lo and after experimenting, research, etc. I found that you don't need any other powder etc. What you have to do is print on the rough side. Feel both sides of the transparency and 1 will be rough--although slightly so. Set your printer options to either transparency or other photo paper. It will be dry when it comes out of the printer.
