traditional vs. digital

Up to this point I have only done traditional scrapbooking but I am presently thinking about trying a little digital scrapbooking but have no clue where to start. Can anyone recommend a good digital program that is easy to use but has an array of possibilities in paper and embellishments? I know creative memories offers it but am not sure of the finished product and I would like to try to print at home. I am just beginning my search into the digital scrapbooking so I haven't look far. Has anyone used ArcSoft Print Creations scrapbook or at least tell me what you have used and how you like it?

I don't wanna even think about digital,spent way to much money on the traditonal way,lol,sorry can't help you,sure others may know.

I use ps and have only used ps. (I already had the program). there are a TON of digital freebies out there.
I do both.

I'd start by dl'ing a few kits, maybe a few templates, to get the feel for it.

That's funny b/c I was thinking maybe digital would be cheaper in the long run. I wouldn't have to refill on embellishments which would curb other unplanned purchases I get sucked into at the craft or scrapbook store s! I swear I am a scrapbook supply addict!

I think PS is a program she purchased. There are a whole bunch of different programs you can buy. You can also buy all the paper and goodies like digital stamps ect online. I've dabbled in digital scrapbooking but I just couldn't go full. I like "hybrid" scrapbooking where you use some digital techniques mixed with triditional to create pages. I'm not really sure if it has saved me any money but it has definately added alot of options to my world. Alot of people like using photoshop but the program can be expensive. I have photoshop and its pretty versitle. Creating Keepsakes just put out a magazine "Computer Tricks for scrapbooking" I found it really helpful for photoshop. I had arc soft on my puter when i bought it, and tried it, but it's very limiting so i went ahead and bought photo shop elements 5, i really love it, now they have 6 out and amazon has it for like 64 dollars i think i paid around a 100 for mine. I don't know if digi is really that much cheaper, especially if you are going to print out the 12x12 pages. There are a lot of freebies out there to get u started that's for sure, but you will probably want to buy some of the digi things as you get into it more and more. you can use them over and over so that's a good thing, and you can make your own paper and embellies I haven't gotten that far into it yet, but i'd like to try it!

I recommend Photo Shop. I went with Photo Shop Elements 6 because Photo Shop was the program that I saw the most in the Digital Scrapbook mags.

Elements did not cost as much and "6" is the lastest vs of it right now.

I use photo shop elements 5.0, which I purchased for a photography class two years ago. There are alot of great sites for freebies. I also recently have purchased a couple of big kits - just around $10 each. I will make numerous LO off of each one. I get mine printed at about 2.50 a page, so ultimately it costs me less than $5.00 per page. Depending on how much embellishing you do, it can save a lot of money.

Also of note, I still do traditional. I think I'm about 1/3 digi and 2/3 traditional.

Traditional only for me. One of the reasons I scrap is because I love collecting all the tools, feeling (yes, and smelling) the paper, sorting through my embellies, the feel of texture. Guess I'm just a hands on type of gal.

I love digi sbing!!! I switched to save money and am completely hooked! I purchased Scrapbook Factory Deluxe because it has tons of embellies and papers included in the software and is around $30, so it doesn't take much of an investment. All of my digi LOs in my gallery are done using this software, if you'd like to check them out. Like others have said, there are a ton of freebies online and in the digi sbing forum members post links to freebies all the time! If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them! Try using the free digi stuff you can find before you buy software. Scrap 'N Art has a digi pick each day with fun new and FREE stuff! Check out the digi part of the forum there, there's tons of freebies already found and linked for you.

from all that I have read - because I am about to do a digi project - Photoshop Elements is the way to go. And there are so many freebies online I don't think you would have to pay for much unless you just wanted to. I just found the digital scrapbook place and there is so much there to get through!

Also, I forgot...there is a website where you can download a free sbing software called scrapbookflair.com. The site has freebies also. You may want to try this if you do not want to spend anything to get started.

I would get a trial version of PS Elements (the one with the easier learning curve) and visit http://www.shabbyprincess.com for some really cool FREE kits to play with it see if you like it! That's a great way to start.

I started out digiscrappin before I went to paper. I use Paintshop Pro (I actually prefer it over PSE) and I also use Photoshop sometimes as well. With all the freebies on line you would never have to buy any supplies for scrapbooking. I print my layouts at home at 8x8 so that I don't spend a lot of money for printing 12x12. There are also freeware programs that you could use so that your digital would be free. You can try a program called GIMP - it looks and feels just like photoshop. Then there is Paint.net. I've only played with Paint.net a little bit so I'm not really familiar with it but it seems to be a lot like PSP or PSE. Might be worth a look see because they are totally free.

You can do some amazing things with digital that you can't do with paper. I find my digital layouts more interesting than paper. And with digital you have as many do-overs as you want and never waste any supplies (or have to replace them for that matter). I have a few digital layouts in my gallery if you'd like to take a look. Once you get the hang of it, you can also start designing your own kits. I was also designing and selling my kits online for a while. The possibilities are virtually endless when you go digital. And the biggest bonus - you don't have to lug out all those supplies and no clean up - just save and close

Maybe a little start--do you use your computer for titles and journaling? You can do "hybrid"... keeping paper and embellies and as time goes on, add more computer.
