Ahhhh I'm sooo frusterated. So I went to lowes and bought pegboard for my scraproom. I painted it today and had a friend come over to help me hang it because my husband is away for the week. Like airheads we just attached it to the wall. (I'm ashamed to admit that) lol. Then I started trying to put my hooks in... lol. They wouldn't go!! So.... how did yall do it??? Please help-- I've destroyed my space and mt wall. LOL.

I've never built a pegboard, but I suspect that you need to frame the back of the pegboard (so that you have space behind it). If you have any lumber hanging around, just nail it around the perimeter of the pegboard, 2x4's should work. When you attach the pegboard to the wall, make sure to go through the framed part, and make sure you hit a stud I'm not sure if drywall anchors would hold too much weight, cause I'm sure you're gonna load this up with tons of goodies

I put a screw through the front of the peg board which then went through a 1 x 1 slat of wood on the back of the pegboard (the slat was placed on the top and bottom that way, I did not do the sides)so 3 screws across the top and two along the bottom was all I needed.

My walls are concrete so I used concrete screws, if you are going into drywall be sure to hit a stud.

I used longer screws and put washers between the screws and the wall so I could have space between the wall and peg board to put my hooks up.

Have fun with your pegboard. Mine was framed like the others said. You are on your way!

Grab a stud finder while your at the store---it really helps. I frmaed min and put it up with long screws. The people working in the store can help you find the right screws too. You need ones that are for wood. You can see my board in my gallery.

we put a single long 1 X1 across 2 studs on the drywall, then attatched the pegboard to that using regular screws with a piece of plastic used like washers. screw/plastic/pegboard/1x 1/wall.

    Hi,

I put a pegboard..you need a spacer for it... it's a white like small tube you place in every corner of the pegboard and the screw will go inside it. So you will have a space and can put the hooks..hope this helps..good luck!!!

I too used spacers for my pegboard. I've had mine for about 5 years now and I LOVE IT!!!
