Adhesive for Ribbon

I was making a card this morning and ran across a problem I never had. When attaching the ribbon onto the paper you ended up seeing the glue from underneath. So then I used some tape and you could see the tape through the ribbon. What works best for you?

hi, i actually ran into this problem too, and it kept me from using ribbon for a long time. it turns out i was just using too much glue. try a glue stick (clear of course) and work it between your fingers to melt it a little (when you apply it right from the tube sometimes you get little glue "chunkies"). put it directly on the ppr with your fingers where you're going to lay the ribbon, and adhere the ribbon. If you dont use too much, it should be perfectly clear w/ no signs of glue. good luck!

I agree with Jamie. xyron usually works great.

I had a problem ONCE using the xyron where the adhesive just peeled off in a big chunk. Other than that one time, xyron is the best for ribbon.

Glue Dots are another alternative.

I wouldn't use glue stick for anything. Experienced scrappers say over time it loses its stick and things fall off.

I use my xyron little X for ribbon. Sometimes I'll use Herma Vario tabs cut into thinner strips.

I actually use something called Scor tape (which is soo incredibly sticky) and I also use zip dry for ribbon. Both of these are so helpful. I dont use a glue stick cause it bunches up too much and you can sometimes tell there is glue there. HTH

I never use glue sticks!

For ribbon I use my duck adhesive roller, my xyron X or terrifically tacky tape. Never had a show thru problem with ANY ribbon- even the sheer stuff! You might want to try vellum tape if it's really sheer ribbon.

holy cow, i didnt know glue stix were so tabu around here, sorry....but i also know that some ppl like to get tips that dont necessarily involve having to purchase pricey products or tools, if she said she was planning on adhering thousands of ribbons in the next week, i would not have suggested the stick, at that point i would suggest investing in the special tool as well. but i did suggest the stick b/c its clear, its inexpensive, its probobly something she already had laying around, and its repositionable, so its easy to slide the ribbon straight if needed. also, im just not really concerned if my ribbons are going to fall of my lo's in 20 years, lol....

Thanks for everyone's reponses. Generally I like to go the cheapest route, doesn't everyone one? However I want my pages to last and look good at the same time.

I think what people have found is pages done with glue sticks falling apart very soon (maybe less than 5 years)! To me, that's not acceptable!

No big- I've just found that even over the course of the school year my students stuff that's been put together w/glue sticks falls apart and is in pieces.

We're a little overzealous when it comes to gluing stuff down!

I also use my xyron 150.

I'm a "New Kid on the Block", so take what I say with a grain of salt, ha ha.

I always have trouble tacking down my ribbon with adhesive, and I am a ribbon junkie. I've started putting it down with brads or decorative staples instead to avoid the frustration, grrrr!

But I think I'm going to add those xyron thingies to my wishlist....

I love to use the red tape. This has always worked for me.

I love, love, love the red tape. I honestly couldn't live without the stuff under my ribbon! I've tried all kinds of adhesive and I find this works best.

I actually found a bottle of "ribbon glue" somewhere, but I can't remember where. It doesn't show at all. It's made by Making Memories (or Memory Makers - the one with the "M" as a logo. But still I generally just draw a line of adhesive with my Tombo w. Another alternative is to put a brad at each end of the ribbon and no adhesive at all. Or wrap the ends of the ribbon around the edge and glue in place on the back. Since you're talking a card and not a LO, you could add a cover piece inside your card to cover the ends of the ribbon and the backs of any brads you might use, etc.

I'm one of those people who had problems with glue sticks...we're talking about a year when things started falling apart. Same problem with Herma tabs, but those took a little longer I think.

For ribbon I use xyron , Glue Dots , or a glue runner.

i use my xyron 150 for all my ribbon and cords and rick rack, and it is only about $10.00 and refill are about $4.99 each. depending on size of ribbon you can put more than one piece in at a time. best things i have ever bought, and i also have the other xyron sticker makers.
