smash book

hello, everyone! i have been seeing these smash books on hsn and they have the tape and clips and everything with them but when i look here in the store it just shows the glue/pen with it. if anyone has bought one what does it exactly have with it? also has anyone seen them anywhere else like j,hl,or ms? do you like yours are they worth getting? i have 2 lil sisters i was thinking of buying one to sorta get started journaling and scrapping. tia

I have one and all the bits and bobs. I'm just using mine for random things that I like, see, pics, stubbs etc

It comes with just the glue/pen combo. You have to buy all the clips and pockets and journaling cards separately.

I've seen them only at Archiver's, and apparently a local scrapbook store near me has just started carrying them.

What is a smash book?

I just saw them at J's this past weekend. They didn't have all the fancy add ons but the did have some like the clips and pockets and some tape.

I got the travel journal to have with me on trips so I can keep track of all the bits and pieces (ticket stubs, coasters, random maps or wrappers etc) that I don't use on pages. I've been thinking of getting just one of the everyday ones for my stacks of theater tickets, photos I don't necessarily want to scrap, fun cards, just little things that catch my eye that I have collected over the years.

To avoid getting the fancy smash brand things I've gone to office stores-they have fun paper and binder clips and I make my own pockets out of scrap paper.

A smash book is basically a blank journel, there are several colors that are themed, doodle, travel, mod, eco etc and it is full of blank pages to 'smash' things into, tickets, feathers, coasters whatever you want.

Saw them with all of the extras at ACM yesterday.

I just got one and it didn't have all the fun stuff, I'm off to Amazon or JoAnn's to see what they have.

No stores near me carry the Smash books and they were always sold out here in the store whenever it was free shipping so I made my own "Junque Journal"...kinda the same idea as a Smash book except I used a notebook...glued scrapbook paper on some of the pages and went to town. I put in cards, used gift cards, magazine pictures, zentangles, quotes, stickers...pretty much anything in mine.

Making one is a good idea. i may do that. i saw alot of good videos on youtube.

I've made 3 so far using The Cinch spiral wires and chipboard for the covers. Added scrapbook papers / pocket pages / stamped images & sayings.

Does anyone have a smash book tutorial that has their stuff on the pages. I have seen instructions on how to make and that was very helpful. I would like to see some completed pages,smashed!! I can't understand how to do the pages unless you are making a scrapbook layout. Thanks.

Before reading this post yesterday I didn't know what a smash book was. Watched the video and I was sold immediately. Ordered by smash book last night. Can't wait to get started!! WooHoo

So excited!!! I got my smashbook yesterday, just in time for Thanksgiving. My DH is watching the football game and I'm smashing. I'm having so much fun! I like the feeling of being free to scrap whatever wherever! I can put a little bit of everything in one book to share with my family and friends.

I love my Smash books! I just got another one which makes my fourth one the black one and some other accessories to put and scrap my nicknacks in!! Can't wait to scrap my Black Friday deals and some of my vacation pics from April with my mommy! Happy Smashing everyone

I made my own plus one for each of my nieces (They are 13 yrs old). These are more like art journals.

The covers are made from chipboard (the backing of paper pads) and then I covered them with some pretty paper. I am including lots of stickers about their favorite activities (softball and cheerleading) and some faux gemstones. Each also has a zippy bag of embellies that I made using my craft robo pro - many of which I made out of paper and then ran them through my Xyron X to make stickers out of them. They can use those to decorate their book covers and the inside pages. Each of them will be given glue sticks and journaling pens to use with their books. The books themselves include pretty papers, drawing paper, marker paper and water color paper. I also custom made them some pages - like a page with each month listed for them to write in their friends/families birthdays. There is another page for them to list when their practices are and games are for the sports they participate in. Another has a place for them to keep their friends email addresses. On some of the watercolor paper, I stamped some images for them to color using their water color pencils and brushes. Their books also include directions on how to measure and punch the holes for adding new pages to their books.

I use my book for ideas of things I want to create, blog ideas for my website, etc... I also have some paper in mine for drawing, water coloring, and practicing with my copic markers. It's a fun little book to have along when I find myself waiting in line places or when I have some time to kill between other things.

I decided to use binder rings to hold the books together so it would be easy to add and remove pages as time goes on.

As much as I love the Smashbooks available for sale ( love mine, I got the black 'mod' one) - I really love the ones you've made on your own! Especially the gifts, with the stickers and stuff you've made and included! How freakin creative and great! If I got one as a gift, I'd do backflips.

They are really easy to make and alot of fun to pull together all the "stuff" for in them too. My nieces know I made them each an art journal but they have not received them yet (mailing them later this week after I finish a couple more custom pages for in them).

I actually got interested in smash books before I decided to start with scrapbooks first.

I had an incorrect understanding of what a "smash book" is supposed to be. I thought it's to collect random things, like ticket stubs, travel brochures, xmas or bday cards that you want to keep, but not important enough for a scrapbook. I liked the idea because I have so many cards and letters that I don't know what to do with. They just sit in a box under the bed.

After I looked more into it today, I realized most people make them and THEN use them. Of course they can keep ticket stubs and what not there, but with the spiral bound type you have to stick things onto a page. They leave a lot of empty spaces for future doodling and journaling. They're kinda like personalized blank journals, I suppose.

That's why I came back here to see what scrappers here have to say. But surprisingly few topics showed up! At any rate, I think I'm gonna do my (hybrid) version of the smash book. I plan to 3-hole punch all the pages, cards or other larger items, bind them with book rings, and just collect things and stick them together. Now that I'm buying more and more scrapbooking stuff, it's also a great way to save beautiful patterned paper and stickers that didn't make it to my scrapbook. MOST importantly, it's a great way to use Washi Tapes! I ordered a bunch before I knew what to do with them haha!

Sorry I started rambling. My point really is - if you use 3 ring or 2 ring style, I think it gives you more freedom to add pages and contents, than using a purchased spiral bound book.
