Does anyone know if I can cut felt and or lightweight cotton fabric with the cricut personal electronic cutter?

I haven't tried it but I'm going to try to cut cotton on mine. I've heard that felt isn't such a good idea, moves around too much. Go to thepinkstamper.com, she's got a video on cutting fabric (she's using an expression but the cutting ability is the same). There are lots of great vids on that site too. Happy scrapping!

Yes you can cut fabric. You need to iron on Heat n Bond to the back and then it can be cut. I am going to a class tomarrow night on cricut 101 and i will ask if felt can be but but i'm sure.. Also i will acutally learn the proper way to cut fabric on the cricut so i will let you know if someone hadn't gotten to you yet but i know it can be done.....

I saw a vid on youtube where they put that on cotton fabric and cut it with the expression but I have not seen anything on cutting felt with the cricut. I've used my cuttlebug to die cut felt but I only have a couple of dies and now that i have a cricut I would like to use it more. Will check back for your post on the above. thanks again!

Ok so you cut your fabric and heat n bond the same size. Iron the heat n bond-rough side-to your fabric-the back side or wrong side. Put it on your mat-fabric side up-and rub it down really good. If your mat is new don't use the squeegie (i know i spelled that wrong! Sorry!) but if it is and one or not as tacky you will need to use it. When you load it move your blade in about 1/4 inch in cause if you cut on the edge it may rip or tear the fabric. Use the multi cut function, Blade at 6, Pressure at 4, and speed at 3. I used this combo lastnight 4 different time and it was perfect! No problems at all. When you take the fabric off the mat make sure you are very very careful and use your spatula. If you tear the backing paper it is a pain in the rear to get it all off.

I was told felt is the same way-use the heat n bond and attatch the same way...as far as the settings on the cricut-my teach said you need to play with it as felt can be very tough or very soft. So try a small piece and then do your bigger piece once you figured out how it needs to be set at. But she did say always have your speed slower with fabric and felt than you would with your paper. Oh and the heat n bond that works best is the one in the red package. My teach said the one in the purple doesn't hold the fabric too well and it starts to shift and eventually tears your fabric. So remember to get the red package!
