Mailing bumpy cards?

How bumpy can a card be and still be okay to go through the postal canceling machine? I am talking about adding ribbons/bows, metal elements, etc.

I have added ribbon and embellies and things and they have been mailed without a problem.

I am guessing, as long as you dont go crazy you'll be ok

I've gotten cards with bumpy objects from my mom without a problem. Just got a Halloween card with buttons for my crocs. She's mailed other objects as well.

You can always mail them in a padded envelope if you want it to get there safely.

The post office has a little device (at the postal workers counter) with slits and if the envelope does not fit through the slit, then you have to use another envelope.

You also have to realize that if an envelope has gone through the sorting machine with the bumpy embellishments, it could get ripped up and destroyed. This has happened many times to me with people who sent RAKs.

I either put highly textured items into a padded mailer, or make sure that I get "Hand Cancel" put on the envelopes. So far, I haven't heard any complaints about cards not getting there intact, and I've sent out some definitely bumpy ones.

My post office is a small town one, but they advised me to put a $.58 stamp on it. That way if it is too bumpy to be put through the machine, the postage for hand canceling is already there. I had one of my Halloween cards, which just had pop dots with the stamped images, come back to me for more postage. My post office said that some post offices are more picky than others! I guess that extra cash is my "insurance" that it will get there!

I take my stuff to the post office and have the counter person hand cancel it and drop it in for me. It's the best way to do it- that way if you need to get another envie and put it in it you can.
