Which Machine cutter is better? Brothers or Cameo 2

Hi all Ive known from before. Ive been on a long hiatus but coming back for some time.

I am looking into getting one of these machines. I don't really see any difference between the 2 (as far as for cutting & what it cant or can not do) except the price.

I can't compare the two but I do ADORE my Cameo It is amazing I am so thankful to have it

I'd never heard of the Brothers one, so I went and read about it. I have the silhouette, but the cameo is on my wish list to turn into reality very soon!

IMO, I would prefer the cameo. I think working on a little LCD display would be a lot more difficult than working with a program on a computer monitor. Also, you are limited to the included designs or what you can scan with the Brothers. With the cameo, you can also scan pictures in and create cut marks or find pictures...there are endless designs found for free all over the web...or you can create your own.

I think for variety of cut and draw options and for the program you use on the PC, a cameo would be better.

Since the cameo now has the scan availability, would you be able to scan disney figures, like Cinderella and a then cut and print them? (The only reason I am holding onto my circuit is because it has the disney characters and silhouette does not.) Thank you for your help.

I don't know that the cameo has a scan feature....but you can take a picture or a scanned image from another program and create cut lines in the Cameo software.

You could always print and cut anything you wanted with the Cameo, as long as you did a trace or other drawing operation to set up the cut lines - that's not new with the Cameo PixScan feature (while one might use a scanner to get the image they want for the tracing, the Silhouette software has the ability to import several types of image files for printing or tracing - that's not new either). What is new is that if you have an image that is already on the material you want to cut - a drawing, a stamp, a magazine photo, a greeting card image - you can use PixScan to cut it directly out of the material. (Or if you just want a specific part of the material to be cut - a few weeks ago I needed to cut a 3-inch circle from a very specific part of a photo, and PixScan would have been perfect for that.)

I mean, there's a way you could use the Cameo to reproduce your Cricut Disney cuts - but you don't need the PixScan feature to do it.

I've had and loved my Cameo since the day it came out (and had the smaller SD machine before that). I have zero experience with the Brother machine, but I do know someone I used to crop with has one and last I heard she loved it...but she's also an artist so she can create beautiful titles/pictures/whatever by hand and then easily scan and cut with her machine. I, on the other hand, can barely draw a straight line so pre-made designs from Silhouette (and other sources) are perfect for me.

I love my Cameo....I love that I can draw with it, that I can cut paper, chipboard, fabric etc., that I can design my own stuff, that you can cut vinyl designs, make temporary tattoos, do rhinestone designs......

I have never tried the Brother Scan n Cut but I don't believe it can do everything that the Cameo can....
I wouldn't trade my Cameo for anything!

There are a ton of Disney stuff for the cameo there are some cut files. You can resize your minnie if you want too....you can also print a disney image on your printer & the cameo will cut it out. You can also use disney coloring pages on it too. you can use clip art. tons of it is free too You can cut any font that you want on the cameo..any that are on your computer now or you can get any from the internet & font sites. most is free too. You can resize the fonts too. It only takes a minute to type a word on your cameo & cut it It is easy to resize the fonts too. There are also tons of free disney fonts online. You can cut any one as long as you put it in your computer..There is a place in your cameo that you can store the fonts in it instead of your computer. I am thrilled to be able to cut a title or card saying in minutes. it is very easy too. go to pinterest & search for Disney cut files or fonts. I have a pinterest disney svg board. There are tons on Pinterest. There are tons on google for example

There is a Silhouette Cameo 2 starter kit in the Superstore (currently out of stock) Is this the latest version, or is there a newer one just coming out? And if you got the starter kit - was it all you needed or did you need to get some extra things. I know it all depends on what you use yours for - but I want to be able to 'create' and cut my own images too Im sure, so would I also need the scan equipment? Is it just the mat I would need? (I did register on the Silhouette site, but mostly just lurking there so far, feel like I have more 'friends' to ask here.)

If you get just the Cameo2 (not the starter kit set) you will have everything you need to start designing and cutting. The starter kit appears to have an extra mat, extra blade, sketch pens, and a pick me up tool. All of those are handy, but not needed right away (although when the price is the same it couldn't hurt to wait to see if it comes back in stock!)

The "scan equipment" as you wrote...I assume you mean the "PixScan mat--that is not needed for designing. All that is is a special mat that you use when you want to cut something specific from either patterned paper, a photo, or even a stamped image.

One thing that you will most likely want for designing your own images is the Designer Edition upgrade for the software. This upgrade allows you to import SVG images, but it also unlocks more of the tools that are useful when designing your own images. You do not necessarily need it right away--some times it's just easier to start with the basic program and get an understanding of that before you upgrade.

Thanks so much HuskerMom98. I know once I have one and get 'into it' things will all fall into place, but things like the upgrade for the software is very important information (to me at least). I know you can usually upgrade at a later date, but sometimes I just want things available at the get-go. I can't wait until I can find one in stock - somewhere!? I'm in Canada but even locally there are none available. But then, I've waited this long, a bit longer isn't going to kill me I suppose - even though I get VERY impatient once I make my mind up! lol Thanks again!

Yes I was looking into getting the starter package also, I wonder when it will be back in stock here? I am not in major hurry to get it, just egar same as anyone else wanting something new

I don't have the cameo but do have the Brothers Scan N Cut and absolutely love it!!!!!! Wouldn't trade it for anything. I also have a ecraft and two cricuts and they are gathering dust! I use my Scan N Cut and Big Shot all the time!

The cricut explore allows you to cut any image as well
