Contact paper

Oh my goodness I am so excited. A few weeks ago i was hired to make a scrapbook for a Christmas present for my bosses son. She had a lot of clippings from the newspaper and I read so much on here about the newspaper falling apart or turning yellow I was really concerned about it. I searched and searched and found someone talking about contact paper that is normally used for inside your cupboards. I myself have never used that stuff but I went and got some of the clear. I have used it on most of the newspaper articles and it looks GREAT. It is almost like laminating except it isn't as strong. It still seals the newspaper and I can cut really close to the paper and it still is sealed unlike laminating. I think this is my new toy cause you can get a lot done in one roll. I have a ton left.
The things are endless of what you can do with it.

Just thought I would share my new friend

Just a thought, is the contact paper acid free?

I've been doing this for a long time. Much cheaper than lamination and actually for me it works better anyway. I tend to put all the newspaper clippings from each season (sports) in a pocket on one page and it isn't near as heavy with the contact paper. The last time I bought a roll I found it in the kitchen wares section at walmart. It is Duck brand and it says right on the package that it is safe for scrapbooking. Your right, a roll goes a loooooooong way to. I can usually get two years worth of sports seasons for 2 kids out of 1 roll.

yes it is acid free....it isn't made from trees like paper is and there is no coloring in it.

    Homecoming 2008 - Queen Joni By J3Mel

the front page of the newspaper on the left page is covered in contact paper. All the rest of the articles and newspaper pictures from homecoming are stored behind it. I attached it to the cardstock with quilting pins. The contact paper is actually pretty sturdy. There are about 3 weeks worth of clippings from two newspapers in there and some of them are full sheets since the homecoming parade pictures took up full pages.
