Making own envelopes for cards

Is there an easy way/ template for making envelopes to use with handmade cards? I've been buying envelopes from J's & M's, but they are only available in standard sizes (4.5 x 6.5 and 5.5 square). I love the look of the skinny tall cards (3.5 by 7?) and would love to make envelopes to fit those cards. Thanks in advance!

You can do it yourself.. it's easy once you get the hang of it. I place the card (folded already) onto a piece of cardstock leaving enough room for all sides to fold over. Score 1/2" all the way around the card. Once you have that done, cut the corners out to the score. That should leave you with a cross shape CS with the folding scores. You can either just fold over and glue the sides and bottom or cut them first to look like an envie and then glue.

I round cut the edges first and then fold left, right, glue the right, and finally fold up and glue the bottom.

It's time consumming, but you can get any size envie this way, not being limited to a template.

I bought templates (not really a waste, but not needed per say), but really you could do it all by hand as the other person posted. I also cut some out using the cricut....

I use the Martha Stewart Scoring Board and there is also one known as the Scorpal. You can cut any size envelope you need.

I used to use templates, but they just didn't work for me. They were always a little off, or just a plain hassle to use. I used a coupon at M's and got the Martha Stewart Scoring Board, and I've used it ever since! It comes with instructions with for all kinds of sizes of envelopes AND boxes and I can make an envelope from start to finish in just a couple of minutes now. Plus I use the score board for making my own card bases (the edges actually match up and no more trimming down to make it match), plus can use it for making decorative score lines, can get really creative with it (just watch Gina K's tutorial videos for some ideas). Anyway, feel like I got my money's worth many times over. Not sure if M's sells it anymore, haven't paid any attention lately. I think I only paid $19-20 for it with the coupon, though.
