spine label ideas needed!

I scrap chronologically in 8 1/2" x 11", using standard page protectors in large black heavy-duty 3 ring binders. I love how they all look consistent on the shelf! But occasionally I have to pull out 2 or 3 to find the one I'm looking for. I'd like some ideas on how to label the spines in a cute, decorative way. I've considered buying the metal clip-on book labels, but wondered if anyone had a better idea???

I'm sure your idea is better than mine... I just use my label maker and put the dates like "June 2008-August 2008" on the spine. My label maker is a cheapy (I'm sure there are better ones out there with more icons)but it does have some icons like hearts and balloons so sometimes I'll put that on the label too if my DS birthday falls in that book. Then I dress up the front of my album with what happened inside the book with stickers and things, like I have "Elvis" when we went to Graceland, or "Merry Christmas" in gems when Christmas happens to fall in that book... I use the metal clip on ones. I jsut use a scrap piece of paper that coordinates with the album and stamp my album title on it and slide it into the holder.

go to your local office supply store and get self adhesive binder labels (not sticker sheets- they're pockets). You can make a label and put it into the self adhesive pouch and put it on the binder spine. I use the business card sized ones. I've labeled my whole scraproom and my bead box with these! LOVE 'em!

CTMH has some nice metal spine label holders, but they are small.

i used some tags that i covered with coordinating paper. then i put ribbon through the tag and around the top ring of my books. then i have tags hanging outside each book.

OT has clip on metal label holders, too.

I use the metal ones, and I use them for my scrapbooks, paper holders, and anywhere else that I can. For my scrapbooks, I use scraps of paper leftover from pages inside. For my paperholders and other storage containers, I use index cards which I trim down to fit in the label. It really helps me find specific supplies when I am trying to work on a project.
