Fiskar Punch Problems

Does anyone else have problems with Fiskar Punches? Mine seem to work really well the first couple of times, but then they start to jam or not fully punch through the cardstock, paper, or pictures. I end up having to tear out the paper and use pressure to unjam them. Are there ways to fix these issues or do I just have really bad luck and purchase crummy Fiskars tools? Or are Fiskar punches a bad purchase altogether?

I use foil to sharpen mine.
Just punch through a piece of foil a few times and that should fix it.
I know that some people will say NOT to do that, that it actually dulls the blade, but I have been doing it for years w/ no problems.

wax or foil i've heard can be used.

I have heard the bit about using fail and wax paper too. Does it really help?? Not on the punches that don't cut all the way through the paper!!! I have a Martha Stewart snowflake punch that won't punch, never have and I have finally decided it never will. I think is was not manufactured properly!

I'm not a big fan of Fiskars punches (especially their border punches) for this very reason.

I have found that I have difficulty with all my punches if the paper isn't right.

I struggle with Fiskar's, EK Success, Martha Stewart where they don't punch through and I tear the paper up getting it out.

Then when I try a different texture or thickness of paper or cardstock its fine.

I find that most punches don't like then paper - they like the nice cardstock!

The Fiskars punches do not handle heavy cardstock very well. I can't remember the weight limit of the cardstock that they can handle, but it might be mentioned on the packaging. If needed, I use foil to sharpen and wax to make it smoother. When all else fails, call their customer service line and they can troubleshoot the problem with you. They have excellent customer service.

I have more trouble with thin paper. It just seems to get stuck and won't come out. It tears up in the punch.

When I get a new punch I often try it out on a piece of junk mail or used piece of computer paper and that rarely works. Thin paper doesn't punch nicely, it gets caught up.

I recently tried do punching a border using really thin patterned paper and it didn't cut right and tore up. I couldn't get it out of my Martha Stewart punch.

After picking the pieces out of the punch I picked up a nice piece of cardstock and it worked beautifully!

Haven't had trouble with my Fiskars border punches--here's hoping it stays that way.

I pretty much always punch cardstock though, and usually bazzill at that.

I also have a problem with thin paper...cheap stuff from Tuesday Morning I bought, or the DCWV 180 stacks...the guality is not good n it catches in the punches...grrr.

After doing a really close inspection of the puzzle piece Fiskars punch, I noticed that it is actually defective. 95% of the punch lies flat, but one area is bent upwards which is what is causing the paper, card stock, etc. to jam. I am going to contact Fiskars to see if I can get a replacement. I bought this punch at least a year ago and have no idea where the receipt is, so I hope they are willing to work with me.

Fiskars has a great reputation for customer service and I'm guessing they will get a new own right out to you.

Fiskars replaced a corner punch for me....they will replace it and I'm sure EK Success would for their brand or MS as well. If it was never functional in the first place they will for sure.

Foil has worked for me on an old used one. You should not have to do that right away. Also, as Henri says, thin paper will bend, not cut easily.

I had a Fiskar's Advantage punch that I bought at Joann's. I lost the receipt and it was several weeks before I tried to use the punch - Defective.

Joann's replaced it immediately - no questions asked.

Of all my punches, and I have a lot, Fiskars are my least favorite. I have two only.

I don't have a preference for brand. I love all my punches equally!
