Junk Journals

I was wondering if anyone still makes junk journals or hand made smash books? I'm asking because I've been bitten by the junk journaling bug, and was wondering if anyone else makes them.

I make art journals, pretty much the same thing but I haven't worked much on mine lately. I used to make them all the time, I use my Cinch.

I have a bind it all:-D I got it last Christmas, but I haven't used it yet. I got into making them because my regular journal was turning into a monster, lol. I had greeting cards in the thing, photos in it...ok, 1 photo, doodles in it, and some magazine and catalog cut outs in it. The poor spine started breaking before I got the thing filled up. So my current one is a 3 ring binder...it has art, cards, newspaper articles, coloring pages, and journalist g in it. My current one uses a lot of recycled materials, but I'm wanting to make acute one with some scrapbook paper, tags, tabs, pockets, etc for next year...sort of journal, smash book, art journal, etc all in one. I want it eclectic but cute, lol and I want to use some things that I don't see using any other way...like a 12x12 scrapbook paper with a cute girly teddy bear on it!

I bought a smash book and I have just about filled it up. I found a spiral bound book that I am going to switch to. It has pattern paper and folded pocket pages. The front and back cover are flimsy so I will change it into a chipboard cover

My smashbook is quite a junk-journal, but just like Ali I too have a bind-it-all in my house since xmas which I haven't used yet. And I actually got it for the explicit purpose of making junk journals. I've collected a ton of scrap-paper so now I really have no excuse but to get started.

And NO, I did NOT draw that pig! I just put a temporary (for her permanent) tattoo on her, recolored her glasses red, added some earrings that I saw in a catalog, and gave her a Bible made out of a piece of junk mail

Ali, are you kidding me? I know that pig page because I've looked at it so many times here on sb.com.
Art is really in the eye of the beholder, and besides, the whole point with the smash journals is that you do things that you FEEL is right and experiment and try new stuff (I don't sense the same liberty in scrapbooking and that's why I don't do so much of that).

OK, I still like that pig page, lol. The story behind that page is still funny to me. The song lyrics are from one of my favorite songs. And the page was made during a week when my MIL was telling me that I wasn't REALLY a Christian because one day that week I got in the mood to paint my nails black and wear black make up. I did it because my boys and my DH got to talking about the Goth style of the 90's. I then told my boys, "yeah I used to dress like that when I was 18 and 19, but I got out of it completely in 2002". They said that they couldn't believe I ever did that...so, I did that one morning and wore it all day as a bet with my kids! I went to town that way and went grocery shopping, I spoke to the mail lady in our yard that day, etc. Since I won the bet, my kids had to clean the kitchen that night and I didn't have to pay each of them $10. But, my MIL set into telling me how I should dress, how I should act, how I should parent, and then she went into telling me that it was wrong for me to watch certain TV shows or movies, my crafting was stupid and childish, I shouldn't listen to any music genre except gospel, etc. That pig page was my way of saying "kiss my bacon", lol.

Your MiL seems to be a person with very little room for fun. Sorry about that.
I'm pretty sure that most deities don't care what colour your nails are as long as your heart is gold.

And thank you for reminding me of goths. I had a very brief period of alternative dramatic clothes in school, I should try to look for some pics of it to scrapbook =)

I'm glad that I could bring back your memories of a "by gone" era, lol. Perhaps ONE DAY, I will get a photo of me taken in my black stuff and scrap it. And, oddly enough, if I do...I know what song lyrics would fit the LO I've really got to get back into the Music Inspiration challenges because even if I just art journal to them, they are a LOT of fun for me.

Ok, here is a project that I made for a junk journal/smash book/scrapbook that my soon to be 15 year old niece can use for a high school mem Memory Book Cover By Flhomeschoolmomory book. This is a cover page that will slide into the clear front pocket of a 3 ring binder. Currently the binder is white, but if by some chance this binder ends up being too small, she will easily be able to change the binder without having to make an entire new book. I'm still debating if I'm going to put all of the pages for the book into sheet protectors or not...I know I am going to add some empty sheet protectors for her to place all of her awards, achievements, etc. in.
