ALERT - SHARPIE WHITE PAINT PEN USERS!

I have been looking for a good white pen to use on my LOs. I was researching on the net and found a thread of scrappers discussing the same topic and one of them said that the very popular white sharpie paint pen is NOT acid free. I decided to email sharpie and see if they were and this was the email I received from them today...

I have seen tons of these markers in "products used" lists so I thought I should let everybody know.

Thats odd. I dont use any sharpies, but Ive heard people say the packages say that theyre acid free though.

I just bought this pen and I swear I thought I read on the package that it was acid free. I may be wrong though. I already threw it away so I can't look now.

I've been a Sharpie user for years (not on my LOs) and always understood that they were not acid-free. I think the whole bandwagon for white Sharpies started because they really show up the best on the dark papers and such and the inkflow is much finer than other pens that do show up. I've always just stuck with the white Sakura Soufle pen. It really does show up pretty well, the only drawback is that it takes a few minutes for the color to "develop" so sometimes you might not be quiet sure what you just drew.

Sanford also makes the white uniball signo writer pen which is acid free.
I believe you can order them from your Stampin' Up demonstrators and also find them on line at Jet Pens ~hth!

Oh no, I don't use sharpies. I have a white Galaxy marker that I use. But good to know.

I have good news for you.

There are two kinds of Sharpies that many people get confused - one is Paint and one is Poster Paint.

The water based poster paint is archival, according to the sharpie website:

That's good to know since the response I got from them was ONLY about the paint...not the poster paint kind. I will make sure to only get the poster-paint pen.

I think there are 2 kinds of poster paint pens... Because ever since I went to the Sharpie site and saw the above post I have been looking for one... However when I look in the stores the one I keep seeing is and oil based pen... Maybe that is what the difference is...

I have a Sharpie Poster Paint fine tip & it said clearly on the package it's acid free. It's water based, but it doesn't say directly on the pen it's acid free.

I think we're okay to use the pens acid free or not as long as it does not come in contact with your photos.
