coloring books for adults

For my birthday I received a beautiful coloring book. I have done a few pages over the holidays playing around with what is the best coloring tool to use. My first page I used my copic markers but unfortunately it bled through the other side. Has anyone else tried to use alcohol markers and had the same thing happen? I since then used my water color pencils and seems to work fine. Just wondering what type of markers I should be using.

I do all my color book coloring in Paint, that way I don't have to worry about coloring outside the lines.

if you want to use markers maybe slip a thin piece of cardboard between the pages you are working on. Won't save the page on the back but will save the book. I just use colored pencils on mine

Most all markers will bleed to the back. Even Tombow will a bit. But who will see the back? Just remember to put paper under it or wax paper. I have tried most all of them. I really really love the Prismacolor pencils. When you bear down harder it makes a more smoother, intenser color. I am seriously considering buying a much bigger set.

I color with color pencils, they work very well, they glide on the paper. I just wish I had more colors to choose from.

I have heard of coloring books for adults but never knew what they really were. What kind of pictures are inside them?

Just depends on what you buy.
Most I've seen are grouped by theme.
Flowers, animals, nature, etc.
I have one, thought I'd like it....but found it to be too tedious. I was just using colored pencils.

Thanks Trish. I never stayed in the lines real well when I was a kid, not a talented colorer. I have a feeling that nothing has changed.

I should probably stick with Don's advice and color with Paint (on computer) or even better - Photoshop. Then it stays in the lines!

Why not make a copy of the pages you want to color and put them in a note book that way you can color the pictures on the back and front with markers.

Could you somehow put a resist on the page?

The coloring books that I have seen are usually themed. Mine is called Tangled Wood by Jessica Palmer. It is filled with woodland creatures, a lot of owls and rabbits, which I absolutely love!

Thanks for all your comments ladies. I have to agree I love the effect of colored pencils and I think I will stick to using them instead of finding the "perfect" marker. I did place a piece of cardstock behind the first picture that I did, and it did bleed through to the other picture....so because of that reason, I won't do it again! haha I have the Kimberely Water Color Pencils, I strongly recommend them.

I've just recently heard about these things. And I must admit that I keep eyeballing on at a local store that in all honesty I want for my birthday in 18 more days, but I've not had any personal experience with them.

Most of the ones I've seen on Pinterest and Youtube used color pencils. But I have seen them done with Crayola markers recently...the wife of one my nephew's was coloring one at my MIL's last night with markers.

I bought Staedtler pens. They dont bleed thru the pages. But, I most use colored pencils. I just bought the same brand of pencils since they are a bit tougher. Not as soft of a core as others i have used.
