Is a cricut expression really worth it?

So I am a college student so buying a cricut would be a pretty big investment for me but my birtday is coming up so I will be getting probably enough money to cover one. I was wondering if you guys think it is worth it. I'm worried that there is going to be something new out in a year and I am going to want that more. Also didn't know if it got old using it and you didnt use it as often as you thought you would?

Yes, it is worth it. I have and still use the original for the past four years and a month ago I bought the Expression because I wanted to cut some things larger than 6.6 inches.

There will always be something new, but this is one of the best that is currently available and will not go out of style.

I bought my Cricut Expression about 2 months ago. I cant believe I made it so long without it. I love it. I also use it every day.

I used to cut letters and various die cuts at the LSS but they went out of business. So I started looking at used die cutting system on e-bay. But then I started looking at used Cricut and found I could get a used Cricut for less than a die cut machine and a couple of dies.
so point #1 BUY USED and you will save $$$

point #2 I am actually kind-of surprised how little I have used my Cricut.
Sure it's great to cut letters but I am not grabbing it constently. Maybe once every third project. Sure it's a great tool for scrapbooking but for some it may a really expensive tool they don't use often enough so they decide to sell it.

In the big scheme of things, #3 you have to be interested in diecut letters and shapes. If this does not interest you or you can buy what you need at the store than pass on the Cricut.

#4 if you really don't have the money, I would hunt around for a LSS that will let you use their Cricut or maybe work out a deal with a friend that will let you use her Cricut.

#5 but finally what sold me on buying a Cricut was two features I could used for the family business, cutting vinyl letters to make signs. I probally print 200+ signs per year on an inkjet printer so this would be a big help, and to be able to etch glass.

Okay it's totally worth it, but... look for a deal. There are some good package deals, if you look for them.

I got mine off HSN last year and I got a great deal and a ton of extras.

I don't regret my purchase of the Cricut Personal (the "cheap" model) at all. I kind of wish I could flip cuts, but it's not critical for me.

I love love love my Cricut Exp. It is one of the best investments that I have made.

I think it is a matter of personal choice. The Circut Expression can be operated without a computer, and you can use a software called "Sure Cuts A Lot", also known as "SCAL", to create your own design files. It is a dependable machine. The cartridges are not cheap, but you don't have to buy them all.

If you want more versatility, in a machine, you may want to consider one of the others on the market. Check out some of the posts under the Die Cutting section, on the forum.

In ending, I'd order "Sure Cuts A Lot" right away. Then, you can take your time adding cartridges You can download thousands of files from the internet and cut true type fonts, with this software and the Cricut.

Aquabunny, if you get Design Studio you will be able to design layouts with the flip feature to enhance the function of the original Cricut. That's what I did. I also would copy a design if I wanted multiples of the same thing. Look for the Design Studio when it is on sale.

I'm aware of that, and I also want it for welding letters, but I'm still waiting for the right price. I try to be frugal in my scrapbooking purchases and I don't want DS enough yet to justify the expense right now.

I'm a college student as well and it is definitely worth it! I got mine for my birthday a little over a year ago and use it all the time! I think the carts are expensive and am thinking about SCAL or MTC...

It was a gift for me but I am so happy I got it. I had the original one and had problems and more problems, but since the expressions, I have had no problems and nothing but happy projects! I have not gotten tired of usung it and am sure I never will. I make die cuts and letters for lists and people's rooms as well as scrapping and cards. I use it MORE than I thought I would

I just got my new Cricut Expression. I've had the personal Cricut for several years, and have used it a lot. I found the Expression for under $200 and the cartridges are no higher than $49. I love it.

I love my cricut expression,and the bigger mat comes in handy for kids school projects.

i use my cricut allll the time... usually on almost all my layouts!! i love it!!

I have an Expression that I got for C'mas. I had my "baby" bug for about two years before I went to the bigger model. The only reason I switched was because I had the opportunity to sell my little on and also I have to make a lot of large projects for my 6 year old son's school. If you are just looking for something to cut a few corners you could save money & space for that matter and go with the smaller version. You can find them for less than $100.

I have an Expression and I just purchased a Baby bug for my girls. I absouletly love it and use it almost everyday. Scrapbooking, home decor, classroom projects, games, and decorations and so much more!

The expression is going to save you money because you can make almost all the embellishments you would normally buy. The cartridges are pricey at first glance, but if you look at other die cut machines....you are paying sometimes $20 or more for just one cut. A cricut cartridge comes with 100's of cuts on each cartridge.

You will not regret your investment!!!!

I love my Expression! I hadn't used it in a while until the other day, but that is just because I haven't had time to scrap at all lately. I am putting our address on the mailbox with Cricut vinyl...that's my latest project. I cut all the letters in paper last weekend to see how it would look and will now cut it in the vinyl.

Good luck! You can always find cartridges for fairly cheap on eBay too. I don't think I have paid over $30-35 for a cartridge!
