magic mesh vs. drywall tape

Ok...so I've heard that drywall tape is pretty much the same as magic mesh (never tried drywall tape myself yet). But when I look at the wish raks, people are wishing for "magic mesh (NOT drywall tape)". Why is that? Acid content? Just wanted to know since I had been planning on buying some drywall tape at some point since everyone says it's cheaper. Thanks!

I would say its the acid content.. and magic mesh is alittle thinner and smaller holes than drywall tape.. and its colored so you don't have to mess with the embossing.. saves time.. hehe.. any of those!! I can't bring myself to by magic mesh.. too darn much money for not enough product!! That and as you know drywall tapes works virtually the same!

I would say it is due to the colors magic mesh comes in, but I am not sure. You can make your own colors using ink, chalk, etc for drywall tape. I have used drywall tape, but haven't used Magic Mesh at all. (I'm too much of frugal scrapper).

Ditto Shannon! I use the dry wall tape too, just don't put it right on or close to my photos. I always chalk mine, I never have embossed it. There's some bookmarks that I made in my LO gallery that have dry wall tape on them.

so is drywall tape self adhesive like magic mesh?

I have drywall tape, but I asked for magic mesh because I have yet to figure out how to color the drywall tape.. Whats the best way everyone????

So far I vote for ink (stamping)...

I trim a piece of mesh off and put it on some scratch paper. Then I chalk it with my pazzle tool like I would chalk anything else. Finally I add it to my LO. It is self adhesive like magic mesh.

well, I can't claim to be a "frugal" scrapper but I refuse to pay the exorbitant price for Magic Mesh, that's one thing I think is just ridiculous and can't figure out "why" it is so expensive for the "little" bit of product that you get! I love the Drywall tape and I also buy cool ribbons that are very "holey" at the Dollar Store that I love to use in place of Magic Mesh, here is one example, if you care to look:

I've also seen Magic Mesh with holes in it that I don't like anyway, lol, but somebody must like it and use it!

Well, I usually TRY to be a frugal scrapper, but Magic Mesh is the one thing I will buy. On the veggie board, they said that it yellows and warps over time, and I want my albums to last forever - they sure take me forever to complete!

I am wishing for magic mesh because I have gotten two drywall tape pif's and they only come in white and I think yellow, and I like how magic mesh in colored!

I see Magic Mesh on clearance quite often. I don't know if they are discontinued colors or what? But start watching for clearance stuff.

My drywall tape says its acid free. Haven't used it in my album yet though.

I just used the drywall tape in a layout for the first time. I inked it, I just cut off what I needed and took my ink pad and dabbed all over it. However, it is still wet and that was five days ago, so I guess I will have to emboss it to make it dry.

Okay,after reading some of the posts I have some questions:

Kate, I'm not clear from the post what "yellows and warps" after a while? Magic Mesh or the drywall tape?

Theresa, The ink you used was probably made for embossing that's why it is still wet, I did that once with a slide holder and it "never" dried, lol, until I embossed it! there are inks that dry quickly and are not for embossing that you should use to ink things that you don't intend to emboss, or invest in LOTS of clear embossing powder!

I also know they make a kelly green drywall tape. I just saw it at Habitat for Humanity last week : ). The crew chief didn't quite get as excited as I did...darn guy. He thinks I am a little on the extreme side anyway, so I'm sure that just added to his belief.

I feel like that if I can make something cheaper...I should do that. I also try to look for sales on shoes, clothes, etc. I enjoy finding the sales in everything I guess. More money for my sb supply collection. : )

I got some metallic markers at Walmart that are acid free and I use those to color the drywall tape. It works great and I don't have to emboss.
I am one of the ones who refuses to pay so much for the magic mesh. I just can't see why it's so expensive.

I'm a drywall tape girl all the way! I have used both and overall just prefer being able to make the tape any color I want. I will use inks, chalks, paints or markers. There is really no limit to what you can do with it whereas the magic mesh is ONE COLOR, you can't change it to meet your need. You would just have to go out and buy it in another color.

Question? I inked some and it seemed like it didn't dry good... is there something I need to do to make it dry?

I refuse to call it drywall tape, but that's what I use...I call it meshy tape but it's the stuff I get at Lowe's.
I like that better cuz you get more for your buck.

Never tried Magic Mesh!
