~*~ Anyone sell their cards? Help Please!! ~*~

Okay, question for all of you. Do any of you sell your cards, and if you do how much do you charge? Or for those of you who don't sell cards, what do you think is an appropriate price to sell them for?

There is a little craft store here that lets different crafters rent a "space" for $20 a month and then the store also keeps 20% of the sale. Well, she said they would love to have me set up my cards there - they don't have any paper crafters in there right now, so I would be the only one. I think I would also do some altered items, mini books, etc. But honestly I have no idea what I should charge.

I do cards of all different sizes, so I'm guessing they should be priced differently because of size, and a lot of my cards are really detailed, while others are a bit more simple, so I would think they should be priced differently for that too. Do you agree?I don't want them to be super expensive, but I also want to make a decent amount on them to. And I have no idea what would be considered a "fair" and "normal" price for handmade cards. Soooooo, I would love any and all advice and suggestions. Help pleeeeeeease!

    i would ask scrapsonabudget..
i saw one of her posts and it said this

"I sell my cards, so as a way to drum up sales I print my name & e-mail on a clear label with a logo i created myself and stick it to the bottom of the back of each card. With the label being clear it goes with every card"(scrapsonabudget)

i would contact her for advice and see what she has to say, hope this helps

I have been selling mine at our local coffee shop. She's asking $4.50 per card. I get $3.00 dollars of that money. I will also be selling them at an open house for local crafters and I plan to sell each for $3.00 in hopes of selling more. I too wish I knew what a decent price would be. If you check out my gallery you will see that I'm on a card making frenzy getting ready for the October 18th deadline. Good luck with your cards.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. It is so helpful to know what others do. Jamie I'll pm scrapsonabudget too! Thanks for the tip!

And dkravec - cute cards! You certainly have been busy! I hope they sell like wildfire!

I send boxes of cards to my husband's work every month or so and sell them for 2.00. I found that I couldn't keep up with all the cards I made and 2.00 more than covers the cost of the card. I do special orders for 3.00.

I have also been thinking about selling my cards! I came up with a cost of 3.50 for a small card and 4.50 for the bigger one. It all depends on how much you embelish it. Good luck!!!

Thanks again to everyone for your ideas and suggestions! I appreciate it soooo much!

I did a church bazaar today. I had Christmas cards 5 for $9 and individual cards for $2. I didn't sell one! They were the average size with minimal embellishments but very cute ideas! I have another event in a few weeks and I'll let you know how that one goes.

I did a festival today, but only sold ornaments and gift tags. No cards. Mine I list for $3.00 or 4 for $10.00. I think they didn't do well be cause 1. it was more of a carnival than a craft fair and 2. it was too windy to have many displayed. I also have another one scheduled next weekend, but it's a "Holiday Market" so I'm hoping I have more luck.

    Hi There,

I do sell my cards. I sell them for $2.00 each. I work at a police station so I have a box of them at my desk and the guys buy them up to earn brownie points with the wives and girlfriends. I have put them in a consignment shop before, but I didn't get many sales that way. Most of my sales come from work, family and friends.

I sell a bundle if 8 for $12.50 for 5-1/2 x 4" cards. Individuallay, they range from $1.75-$2.25 depending on the size of the card. "Bling' (rhinestones) are extra, and I add a 50 cents per card if they want photo corners, and have ME insert the photos, as in Family Chritmas Card photo.
I live in somwhere between the suburbs and "the sticks" near Philadelphia.
    Hope that helps!!! Good luck!

I used to have a gallery space and the least amount of money I'd sell a card for was $3 (for a very minimalist card.) The most expensive I ever sold was $7. You have to look at making cards like it's your job- how much time did you put into making the card? Your time is worth money too! If you only make two cards an hour, then sell them for $3.50, you're only grossing $7, and that's BEFORE taking expenses into account!

I found that, on average, it took me 20 minutes to make an averagely complicated card, and cost me about $0.50 in materials. So selling cards at $3.50 a pop meant I made about $3 per card, or $9 per hour, which was a figure I was OK with.

My default pricing was $3.50 for smaller/less complex cards and $4.50 for more complicated/bigger cards, and I always sold out.

    Thanks!

it all depends on how much cost the materials you use and the time that takes to make it! if the cost of materials are .50 and you do a card in 20 mins. the cost should be around $4.50 (.50 x 3 and $9/3) depends on how much you want to charge for an hour of work!

How does one complete a card in 20 minutes? While I'm new to card making, my cards take at least an hour. I surely need to start practicing!

It takes me at least an hour to make a card too. I sell mine for $5 each.

I have a few suggestions for quick card-making.

    1) Make multiples! Designing, cutting, embossing, etc all take up time, so if you plan to make 2, 3 even 10 of the design you decide you like best, you can produce far more cards than if each one is original.

    2) Choose 2-3 papers that you think go well together, then just use these sheets until it is all gone. This eliminates the time you will take thinking thru different paper options for each card, and you'll use your materials more efficiently.

    3) Take pictures of all of your creations, and refer back to this "catalogue" for inspiration. I also look to other crafters for inspiration, and print out examples of their work for ideas. One great site is heartprints.org, run by an amazingly talented card-artist who encourages crafters to copy her work. This really helps cut down on the time it takes coming up with a vision for your work.
