PC Silent Setter: Worth the Purchase?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone has purchased the Provo Craft Silent Setter. I love eyelets, but have neglected to use them because I hated the trouble I had to go through to punch a hole, squeeze the eyelet through (always causing rips in my paper), and then hammering as hard and loud as I had to. I have so many eyelets, probably in every color imaginable and want to use them. If anyone has bought or used the Silent Setter, is it worth it? Is it easier than the old way. Is it really silent? Just wondering before I spend my money on it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I bought a silent setter and never use it (but it is silent) ... what I use the most is a set of Fiskars setters that work without a hammer. You just pull the top up and let go and it's 'return' sets the eyelet (It's very much like a 'Ready Setter'). One end puches the hole and the other sets the eyelet ... it comes as a set of 3 (for different size eyelets).

The silent setter works with pressure by you (you push down and rotate the handle at the same time - I had to stand) but my hands just can't take the pressure anymore ... lol

I wondered and worried over this for so long...I did buy one, yes it is silent!! And so far I have had no problems with it, but if you have to set a lot of eyelets sometimes it hurts after awhile!! I have to stand also. But it beats not waking up my kids!!!

I have heard that some eyelets do not set well with this, I tried all of mine, the ones from joanns, walmart and my MM, they all seemed to work fine for me.

I have the silent setter and I love it - it is so easy!! It is easier to use with aluminum eyelets so those are the ones I use. If you use a harder eyelet I have heard it works, but you have to push down harder.

i tried it out at a sb conventions and i really loved it...i didnt' buy it because it wasn't in my budget and since i have the mm setter set i couldn't justify buying me one.
i liked that it's silent and doesn't only claim to be silent....

You might want to do a search for past posts about this. I'm sure there are a lot more opinions available there.

Mine, which you will find in other threads is, no its not worth it, but that's just me.

I like mine, but can't get it to work with MM eyelets, swapped them all out. Now I use the softer aluminum ones....love my silent setter.

I enjoy the fact that I dont look like a chick with anger management issues when I scrap because I'm not nailing something with a hammer. Its easy on the wallet with a coupon for Joanne's if you have one near you. It is tough sometimes to set mm eyelits. I've heard good things about the clickit if this is a problem for you.

I was finally able to set MM eyelets with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't change the way I tried setting them before. I just tried my mom's setter again and it worked. Maybe we got some eyelets that were a bit softer.

Maybe MM got the hint and changed the eyelets. Thats the only complaint I ever hear about the setter.

I tried this at the CK-Vally Forge, PA convention last weekend. I loved it and bought it! It is very simple to use and absolutely silent - having a 17 month old, silent is a must!

I have it as well and LOVE it! I have an 8 month old and silence is a must.. I have had no problem with it either for ANY eyelets and the hole punches go through many layers of paper and cardstock with no problem, just a little more pressure needed. I use a larger mat under it instead of the one it came with, but it's great on crops too! I'm not disturbing others with my banging!

I say it's well worth it!

Thanks so much for all of your replies! I actually did buy it (with a 40% coupon at ACMoore), but didn't open it yet, keeping the receipt. I can't remember if my eyelets are MM or not. I think most of them are Treasured Memories. I did see the MM instant setter and now wonder about that. Hmmmm.....tough decisions!

I bought one yesterday and used it last night. I REALLY like it. it took some getting used to for making holes but setting the eyelet was so slick.

I have the MM one and love it - does anyone know what the negatives are to the MM one?

I have the Making Memories one. It does make noise but you are not banging the hammer a few times to set each eyelet. The MM one makes a popping sound when you use it.

I really like mine. I actually quit using rivets for a while b/c I hated all the banging. But now I'm back in business.

Have the MM one. Love it, its not silent but it works so fast and simple. You can tell it has spring action to it. All you hear is a lil pop and your done it even is compatable with their die stamping set.
