Displaying scrapbooks at weddings?

I'm getting married in June and have been considering displaying my scrapbooks at the wedding for people to look through. We will have about 60 people at the wedding. I have 7 scrapbooks with pictures spanning across my whole life. I have been with my fiance for 5 years, so many of the layouts contain pictures of us together. Any suggestions for why I should or shouldn't do this? If I do display them, how should I go about it?

Also, I plan to make framed scrapbook pages for my bridesmaids. Do they make scrapbook frames that are any other size than 12 x 12? If so, where can I buy them?

I think that's a GREAT idea - it's YOUR wedding so there is no right or wrong in my book!

Find a picture framer - doesn't have to be anyone flash - just in a mall - and they will be able to make you up cheap wooden frames to any size you want.

I just got 4 9"x9" made up at no more cost than buying something of the shelf at a discount store - took the guy about 3 hours and I got them the same afternoon. He just used off-cuts and was pleased to be able to do something a bit different I think! He also cut me some mat-card into squares for albums from his off-cuts - definitly worth keeping on his good side as he is going to keep them for me in the future and I just pay a few extra dollars for his time

They will probably make you some quick and easy tripod style stands too to display your books - though if they are heavy I would just display them flat on a table for people to look at.

Are the pages all in protectors? If not - just have them on display before people eat/drink in case they get stained

Also - I am sure you have thought of something like this, but have say, postcards available at each table that people can write messages etc on - and then scrap those - especially with pics if you do the disposable cameras on the table thing...
Leave a note on each table explaining what the cards/cameras are for - even if you get only a couple of good pics/postacrds - it will be worth it..

I made a scrapbook to introduce the wedding party to the guests, it was quite a hit!

I just put it out on the gift table...and people could check it out at their leisure.


I don't know about scrapbook frames...

Not exactly the same situation here... but I had a scrapbook of my son's first year displayed during his first birthday party. It was passed around alot. While everyone enjoyed looking a the scrapbook, it was handled a little roughly at times(especially by the kids). So just make sure you are okay if pages end up being wrinkled, stained, or (God forbid!) torn. Honestly 7 scrapbooks is a lot to look at. I would suggest maybe just displaying 2 or 3. Perhaps you can consolidate the most important layouts. The good side of this is I'm sure your guests will really appreciate you sharing with them pictures of the different stages of your life.

Yikes, I wouldn't! That's a lot of people pawing through your albums, you won't be able to supervise, and you just never know what might happen - someone bumps into somebody accidentally and before you know it you'll have a glass of red wine or coke or a pile of cake all over your pages.

However, maybe you could reproduce some key pages and display them in frames or in it's own album that people can look through - this way you won't have to worry about them. Or do a slide-show kind of thing.

If you decide not to display all 7, you could just pull out layouts of the two of you together and make a special book of those layouts. I think it sounds like a terrific idea to display them.

I wouldn't display 7 scrapbooks. That's a lot. I would worry about damage or carelessness, too.

But I think it's a terrific idea to display a few of your pages, or even 1 scrapbook, of the two of you together. If I were in your shoes, I would pick my fav 5 or 6 one-pagers and shadowbox frame those and have them out (or possibly hanging) at the reception.

Be sure your wedding coordinator or someone is "designated" as the scrapbook picker upper. You will be much too busy and preoccupied to have to worry about them getting back to you.

I have seen SBs displayed at varius events and the guests usually enjoy leafing thru them. The ones who are not interested will just not look. ~smile~

Most certainly set out one or two books of your best "couple" pages. It will give your guests a chance to know you both better.

You could also create blank journaling tags for guest to fill out.

I think it would be most fun for your guests to see the layouts of your dating time together. My suggestion is to pick 6-10 of your most fav layouts and display them in acrylic stand up frames. Superstore here has a new style in.

I had a scrapbook that I displayed at my wedding, it was of us when we were dating. Everyone loved it I had it at a table, and it stayed there. People did NOT pass it around and I had a sign on the table that said no food or drinks please.

It wasn't damaged at all, people respected my wishes and everyone loved the scrapbook. I ended up making a scrapbook for another wedding because of it!

Thank you so much for all the ideas! I agree, 7 would be a lot. I just couldn't figure out the best way to consolidate them, but I really like the idea of putting together a scrapbook with my favorite pages of us as a couple.

All the pages are in page protectors. I was a little worried thinking about spills, etc. but it's reassuring to hear about your experience, tinacome. I think I'll post a little sign like that too. I have a framed collage of us over the years that I think I'll display too.

Imcnabb, I am doing an alternative guest book where guests write their wishes, advice, etc on little note cards that I'm going to make a scrapbook with by pairing the note cards with the guests' pictures.

As for the framing of bride's maids gifts...

I don't know exactly where you're located, but M's sells 12x12 frames marketed specifically for scrap pages. They're often on sale, too!

I would take pics of my LOs and download them onto digital frames for people to watch. And maube have some of you favorit LOs from each album copied and put into a albums for people to thumb through. This way you originals will be safe at home.

I have seen 12x12 frames at ACM and M's.

I agree with those who have said just an album or 2 of the 2 of you together. This is just my opinion, but displaying albums and LOs of just you and none of just him growing up is a little one-sided...as I said...my opinion!

Another great idea is what Niqui said about the digital frames...then no one would be pawing through and messing up your albums and you could also get some childhood pics of your fiance to put on that if you wanted to include your childhood pics.

Stephanie, I do have another non-scrapbook idea for displaying both of our childhood pictures. Do you think that would be picture overkill if I did that and displayed the scrapbook? I obviously just love pictures, and I figured these ideas would be good alternatives to the slideshow, which costs a lot extra at our venue.

I displayed a scrapbook at our wedding and it went very well. I also had mine on a table with other photos and memorabilia and it stayed there. With sturdy page protectors and having it stay in one place, you shouldn't have too much trouble...unless you are planning on having a super drunk guest list or something, LOL!
