Sea shells!

Hi !!
Today we had great weather and went to the beach! Offcourse we took a couple of pictures.

I also found some sea shells that I could use on a LO but I was wondernig HOW?!

What kind of glue do you use? And how do you stick it on the paper because there is no flat side??????

Hope this isn't a stupid qestion...

I usually shy away from using shells on layouts because they're breakable and hard to adhere. I have used them on altered art and on items that I hang up on the wall though. I used a quick drying strong liquid glue so they'd stay put.

I suppose if they're tiny enough, using them on LOs wouldn't be a problem.

i just used sea shells on a beach lo i used hot glue gun and i did adhere it to photo i adhered it to pp. it came out great

If you have a liquid adhesive like KI gloo, you might try that. I'd just be careful about using any of the larger shells in a scrapbook.

Another idea: You could break the shells up into tiny pieces and use the pieces on the LO. You could create a mosaic with them.

I did a layout with small shells and rocks. I like how it turned out but the page was a little heavy. I used hot glue to adhere everything to the page.

I use tiny shells alot on my lo's. I use glue dots and haven't had any fall off yet!

If the shells are relatively small (shallow), how about using foam core board as the base for your page?

Cut an opening slightly larger than the shell. Back the opening with cardstock or patterned paper. Adhere the shell or leave it loose like a shaker box. You could even add some beach sand. Seal the opening with transparent plastic. Decorate the foam core page.

It's a thick page, but it will fit into a page protector and the shell will be recessed into the page.

Forgot to say that the foam core page should be at least 1/4 inch smaller on all sides than the page protector to compensate for the thickness

What about using a pop dot? You may have to layer two on top of each other to get the right depth.

can't you just color the shell itself, it will look much more artistic that you think, but i really do know that , image on shell is going to be a too good of a think to miss..

I have used small shells on my layouts before. I attached them around the edges of the shell with the KI Gloo, which is similar to Glossy Effects by Ranger. Here are the layouts I used them on.

Hope this gives you some ideas on using shells in your layouts.

If you displayed the layout in a box frame you could pour sand in the bottom and layer on some shells - this way there is no gluing needed. If you wanted to glue the shells on I would suggest a hot glue gun, and in the box frame nothing would get damaged or crushed - if you put shells in your album, the other pages may end up with indents from them.

I have used small flatter type shells and used a glue dot to adhere to paper layouts before and they stay but are bumpy.

Im a total lurker but I did do a page that may help you. I used beacons 3 in 1 advanced craft glue I got at my LSS. Its awesome I use it alot now. I also used some glossy accents to put the sand on the page. It didnt work out like I thought it would tho.

I also dont really mind lumpy bumpy pages and will glue just about anything to a page

a bit late on this one but an idea i found for a shaker box was to use the packaging from something like a small pack of batteries. i'm having a hard time right now finding one that is just flat, most seem to be molded to the shape of the batteries these days but i think a 9v battery package might do the trick. i will probably get a cheapo one from the dollar store and just recycle the battery lol. but yeah it's perfect because the edges are flat, easy to glue to the page and then you can cut out paper to fit around the box and it will cover the edges.
i'm planning to do one or more of these in my book, i have beach sand from the beach i got married on and a bag of random store bought shells, i will probably toss 2 or 3 tiny shells in with the sand

I use glue gun. It's a little hard and quite messy and you really have to use small shells but tough ones so they don't break easy.

You can scan them....

Also, I did a thing similar to an idea above with foam core. I made a little "shadow box" and set a tiny shell inside it. Unfortunately eventually it did get cracked and so I think a layer of dimensional adhesive would have been a good idea.

i've used them before but sanded off rough edges so the shells wouldn't tear my pp - i used hot glue gun - worked well and looked great on LO
