Cutting Ribbon without the Frays?

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have any tips on how to cut ribbon so that it doesn't fray at the end?

I'm trying to make the little triangle cut (is that what it's called?) at the end and every time I do it starts to fray. I've tried it on different types of ribbon and it always starts with one little thread.

If it's poly ribbon you can melt the end very carefully with a candle or a lighter. I actually hold the edge of the ribbon just outside of the flame, and the heat melts it.

You can also try a bit of clear nail polish or a product called fray check, which is available at Joann's and such places.

I use clear nail polish and it works great.

You could cut the ribbon with pinking shears. Because those are made to cut fabric like material, so that would work. Or if your using regular scissors, when you put the ribbon into the scissors pull it tight on the blade so that it cuts right through.But I would use the shears though.

I flame the ends of all my ribbon with a lighter. I use ribbon on almost all of my cards and LO's. DH thinks its funny that a lighter is one of my most used tools.

I soak the ribbon with Fray Check and let it dry completely and then cut the shape I want.
