what size card would you use for baby shower invitations?

We found out my stepdaughter is having a girl! Yay! I am hosting her baby shower and want to get started on the invitations (shower is early March) I am not a card maker and would like some advice on what size to use and if there are postage restrictions? TIA!

Hi and congratulations on your stepdaughters baby girl--very exciting!!

I make cards and invitations on a regular basis. I would recommend a standard size-A7 envelopes which hold a 5"x7" card/invitation.

The other sizes that are regular postage (if not bulky) are:
A2 which holds 4"x5" card
A6 holds 4"x6" card
4Bar (smallest you can send) holds 3"x5" card

Anything that is a square will require additional postage.

I agree, I also use the standard 5 x 7 cards and you can find different weights of cardstock at your local paper supply store.

A's, M's, and J's all have them, and I've seen tons of 5x7 cards and envelopes at WM in the Wedding clearance section. Blank, beautiful and CHEAP! I bought a box of 40 invites and envelopes, for $4. Haven't used them yet!

I use A2 cards (4.25x5.5) for invitations, because the size envelope that fits them perfectly is called an INVITATION sized envie I buy a large box of invitation sized envies at Staples.

I would do smaller than 5 x 7, because you can get more out of a piece of 12x12 paper. If you do 4x6 invites you can 6 out of a piece of 12x12

Okay or 3 folded LOL.

I think if you do 5x7 you can only get 1 folded or 2 not folded.

Amanda - I like your thinking!

Since most baby/wedding/bridal shower invites I've ever seen are just a card with the info, I'd definitely go for either 5x7 or Amanda's idea of 4x6 (to save $$).

Were you planning on making them yourself? If not you should check out http://www.shutterfly.com/cards-stationery/baby-shower-invitations . You choose a template and then just add your own images and text. I used them for my sister's shower and I was really impressed with how they came out. It saved me so much time and effort I'd definitely use them again.

Shutterfly makes great invitations if you are going to hand make them all by yourself I would make them 5x7 out of 12x12 paper.

I have made these before , they are A2 size and worked well. I can no longer find the tutorial
