Key pages in a baby album gift

My brother and Sister-in-law are expecting in October (It's a boy!). I'd made them a scrapbook for their wedding gift, tracing their dating life together, leading up to the wedding. Now I want to continue the scrapbook theme and make them one for the baby's first year, etc. I found it easier though, for the wedding gift, since I had the pictures with me!
I obviously don't have any of the baby pictures yet, so am having a little more trouble planning out these pages. I think I want to include more milestones, as opposed to one page for each month. Seeing as how I don't have kids, looking for suggestions on what key milestones to include in the book. I've thought the given, hospital pic (with weight, size, date of birth etc), home sweet home, pics with mom n dad/grandparents, bath time, sleeping, crawl/sit up/walk, first word, first haircut, first word, first bday, Christmas, mothers/fathers day...
Any other suggestions for what I may be forgetting? What could I include for more general pages? ie 'cutie pie'. I don't want to forget any obvious events!

I did an album for my son and at the end I did 4 pages of his 1st birthday... cake smash.. opening presents etc. you could also make just LO's with photo mats for them to glue pictures on without any "milestones" per-say just for photos that they love. I did a Halloween page... I did one for autumn where I live they have a hay bail maze every fall so I look pictures of him there.

As I look through the book I also did a weight chart page... so it had age height and weight and I filled it out everytime he went and got weighed and measured, like when he got his needles, every trip to the doctor he made etc

Just today I finished doing an album like this for a friend who's due in July. Like you, I don't have any kids, so this was my first baby project - and my first time making pages without already having the photos. As I type I am actually taking a break from taking pictures of all the finished pages, which I will upload to my gallery after I give my friend the album next weekend.

Pages in the book I did:
"Welcome Baby" (an album title page, basically, with a photo mat and space for length/weight/name/etc)
"Mommy and Me"/"Daddy and Me" (two facing pages each with a space for a picture of baby with mom and dad)
"Family and Friends" (two facing pages for pictures of the parents' extended family)

My First Christmas (done in dark blue/lavender from a Christmas kit so as not to break up the overall pastel theme of the album)

"10 Things" (using a "10 Things I Adore About MY Baby Boy" pocket by Deja Views)

"Blue Jean Baby" (untitled page on denim patterned paper, with space for two small photos and lots of journaling - it has no title, but "blue jean baby" is how I kept referring to it in my head and in to-do lists)

My First Year (Three pages of nothing but the "12-month cards" from Little Yellow Bicycle's Babysaurus collection, and a fourth page for "I'm One Year Old!")

Almost as important as the photo mats was leaving LOTS and lots of room for journaling. With the album I will also be giving an adhesive runner, clear photo corners, a photo trimmer, and a journaling pen, so she can complete the album as the pictures roll in.

Last year I made a premade album for my friend expecting boy/girl twins. All she had to do was insert pictures at a later date. She loved it! One thing to keep in mind with premade albums is to try and make the pages to use 4x6 pictures (as that is the standard size that most people print).

I went with an animal theme and made one album for both twins. I had pages like:
1. Let the adventures begin (birth date)
2. 2 page layouts for months 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8,
9/10, and 11/12
3. 2 page layout for their first birthday party
4. a few single page layouts for the twins with their older sibling
5. a special page for each twin
6. and finally a growth chart for their mom to record their weight/height the first year.

A page of favorite outfits would be adorable.

I haven't done alot of scrapbooking... is it hard to find 8x8 paper/pages? I found a 'baby boy' kit that was super cute and I wanted to use it, but it's an 8x8 album. I'm concerned because ppl suggest to leave spaces for 4x6 pictures since they're easier for the parents to simply print out and add to the album... is it better to use a 12x12 album for more space?

8x8 paper is a bit hard to find but I tend to just cut down 12x12 to fit - the resulting 4 inch wide scraps come in quite useful. For the one I just finished, I planned to do an 8x8 but realized I could do fewer pages by doing 12x12 (I could do one sleepy-time page instead of two, etc.) With only two exceptions in the entire 30-page book, the mats are for 4x6 photos, no more than two on any page.

I think that 8X8 is not enough for a baby album. If the parents are anything like me, there will be way too many photos and it will be hard to narrow it down. And you are right about the 4x6 being easy to print and pop into it.

On a whimsical side, include a page for "funny faces"!

I've made several baby gift albums (8x8) and I figured that the parents could use them as brag books or to give to the grandparents or just keep on the coffee table. The 12x12 is nice but I'd like to have the pictures and a lot more time in order to create that. I can usually put the 8x8 together in a few night's time. Good Luck!!

I like the funny faces idea! I was thinking the same frau, that a 12x12 would be better... and a 4x6 pic would take up too much of the 8x8 album... but, I found a nice album 'kit' in the 8x8 album, with supplies and ideas... being new, i liked the idea of having inspirations and ideas lol. Where do you folks get your albums and supplies? The 8x8 album kit I found at michaels, but I didn't see any 12x12 kits. Any advice??

I got two baby boy-themed kits at my Michael's. They were on the top rack of 12x12 kits. They did not include albums, just papers and embellishments. They were both $7; one of them was on clearance. One was from Michael's own "Recollections" brand, and I think the other was by Colorbok.

I bought a 12x12 album separately, but oh my gosh I need to stop buying Pioneer albums, I usually buy Colorbok and every time I buy Pioneer for some reason I regret it.
