Possible to not use plastic sheet protectors?

Is it possible to use just cardstock in Colorbok or similar albums without the plastic sheet protector?

Again, I'm looking for a way to make a simple old-fashioned type photo album using photo corners and I am trying to avoid plastic at any cost (too many ruined photos to count due to high humidity).

So I was wondering if it's possible to punch holes into the cardstock pages and install them without the protective sheets or if there is something out there that is a bound book of blank cardstock for me to mount photos to.

Yes it is possible to use card stock. It does not hurt to buy acid free tissue in between the pages to protect the layouts.

It also adds to the old fashioned feel.
