Snapfish troubles

I have been trying to use the new website (at least new to me) and I am having difficulty with it. I have uploaded pics and chosen the ones I want to print but it is cropping pics in a way I don't want them cropped and I can't figure out how to change it. I also want to use the penny print coupon but it keeps me on the 9 cent charge. Has anyone used it and have any tricks on how to use it?

When you have the photos you want loaded in your cart, you need to go and look at each one individually from there and adjust Snapfish's cropping. There is a tool option to adjust crop on each photo. I believe you click the photo and it will say "Adjust crop?" I used Snapfish for years and found this out after placing a few orders where people's heads were cut off and stuff. And calling Snapfish will get you no where. I have since switched to Shutterfly. They crop their photos too and I have to go through the same process because I don't trust they will do it the way I want. I don't have to make as many adjustments with them though so it's worth it for me.

As far as the penny print sale, that price comes off at the end. Once you've loaded your cart and gotten everything just the way you want and start the checkout process to pay, you should get the option to use a coupon. If it's a sale that doesn't require a coupon, it should come off the bottom line and you should see that before you pay. You will still end up paying for processing and shipping.

I print at COSTCO! They are beautiful and NOT cropped crazy!

Snapfish's default is "true digital", which is what you see in your camera viewer, but the output size can be changed. This is from the snapfish site:

"Change Size -- 'to change the size of all the prints you selected.
Add Size -- to add other sizes of prints. The available sizes are 4x4 (square), 4x5.3 (true digital), 4x6, 5x7, 8x8 (square) and 8x10. Number of prints of each size can be changed using +/- at the bottom of the photo."

You have a choice of changing all of the photos to the chosen size, or choosing individually. I always check to change them all to 4x6, then go through each one and move the cropped area wherever I want it.

Snapfish is in the middle of updating their site. If you want to go back to the old site, there is a place to click in the lower right-hand corner to go to Classic. I'm sure eventually that won't be an option, but while they're moving things around, it's there.

I actually prefer to print my photos at home, but if I'm getting a bunch at once to just put into photo albums, I love the snapfish quality and speed of delivery.

I also found out that if you have prepaid prints in your account, then the penny sale doesn't apply. It seems weird, but that's what they told me in an e-mail when I couldn't get the sale to work. (This was a couple of years ago, so maybe it has changed by now.) Now that I've used my prepaid prints, I no longer prepay, but instead wait for a penny sale, which happens frequently. Also the sales don't apply to store-pick-up orders, only to mail orders since the stores set their prices through snapfish. So, you can get penny prints and pay shipping, or pay normal and have free pick-up at a local location.

Thanks for all the info. I may just print mine at WM or Walgreen's and be done with it. It may cost a little more but less aggravation. I read a previous post about printing pics at home but I would have to buy a printer. Is it cost effective?

Some say "no". I get loads of high-quality prints from my printer (HP Photosmart C309A). Most of all I like being able to print whenever I need a picture, in whatever size, shape, etc. I want. I got tired of no matter what store printing source I used, the colors wouldn't be right, the cropping wouldn't be exact, or something else would be messed up even though I'd double-check before ordering...it seems I always am disappointed with store prints. Snapfish has done well for me when I want big orders, just for photo albums, but for my LOs, I definitely want to do my own at-home printing.

While we are on the Snapfish topic...does anyone find that it takes FOREVER to upload photos from their iphone to Snapfish? Wondering if anyone has a trick I am missing for making it go faster?!

YES! Since they are trying to update their site and software I have found it takes forever and starts freaking out my phone. So then, I started just uploading a few photos at a time which is also a pain. I hope once they have everything finalized things will move along smoother.

I just realized that Snapfish has been cropping my photos a tiny bit--my DSLR shoots in 4x6 mode so it's not the "digital print size" issue, but I only realized it because of a photo I was using in a LO last night. My photo was of my boys having a snowball fight with DH, and DH was just on the edge of the frame, but in the printed photo you can only see his arm. I checked a few other photos from that day and they all look to be cropped just a fraction, but nothing is missing...like DH!

I've only had my DSLR since Cmas...makes me wonder if it's been doing this all along...

I've had trouble recently too. I have an old family photo, nearly 100 years old, that I scanned on my home scanner/printer. Used a photo scanning program. Uploaded to Snapfish to print. When it came to the print screen, I wanted to choose 8X10, but it wanted to automatically crop it to cut out part of one of the girls in the picture. No amount of adjusting the crop would help. It keeps things in a certain proportion and that's it. Problem for me was that the original photo is "odd sized" these days. It wouldn't even let me add extra white space to the top and bottom to make it work. I ended up ordering a 5X7 just because that was the only way I could get all the people in the frame.

Any suggestions on how to get the size I need? From Snapfish or another site? Thanks.

How frustrating! Other than trying out other printers (ie. Walgreens, Shutterfly) the only suggestion I would make is print it yourself at home. I assume you probably don't have an at home printer which is why you went with Snapfish. I have the option of printing at home but I print so many photos it's more economical to have someone else print them. I do use my home printer for "odd" jobs. I hope you find a solution. Good Luck!

I am glad I stopped to read this thread. I'd been thinking of printing pictures at home, and you guys have some good advice.

Usually, I've gone to WM or Walgreens, thought one of the local WM's no longer has photo printing anymore....

I went to their old site and got my pics printed. I don't think I will use them when I have to go to the new site.

I switched to MPIx last year. they print in any size.... they have a cheap shipping too. I have lots of 3x5 pics & all the other places print them at 4x6 which blurs some & cuts off other parts. they print for photographers. I have had a couple orders & I loved the quality. They have good shipping prices too I messed up an order. I emailed asking what happened.. the customer service guy said I messed it up & it was true but he went ahead & reprinted it & sent it next day. shipping.

anda11, I will have to give them a try. I would like to print in some size besides the standard ones.
