Wire cubes for paper storage

I've seen many pictures of scrapping areas where people use the wire storage cubes, from Target, etc., to store paper. Obviously, this fits 12 x 12 paper, correct? Can someone tell me what you do to make this work?

I used the little electrical tie thingies from home depot to make the shleves- sometimes called wire ties or zip ties- they have the little hole on one end and you feed the other end through and pull, and they don't come back out again.

Before you add the shelves, use the little knob things that coem with it to build the cubes as high as you want them ( I have one set that is 2 cubes high and one set that is 4 cubes high) Then depending on how many shelves and how far apart you want them spaced- hold a shelf where you want it and use a wire tie to go around the little grid on the cube and the corner of the shelf - do this for all four corners and move on to the next shelf and so on

I built a set of these last weekend and used the cubes two across and four cubes down. I built the cubes with one set and used the second set for the shelves. If you dont have home depot, lowes has 100count 8" cable ties that work. it took 2 packs of those for me. my shelves would probably stand up to a hurricane with the amt of zipties i used on them. be sure to eyeball the front and back as i got tired and had a couple of cockeyed shelves, i love this system tho and for the money is the best thing. susan

I use the cubes too. I set my shelves with Christmas light hooks, the ones that are shaped like an 'S'. This way I can slide the shelf out just enough to make it easier to get at the paper.

Do you cut the extra cubes apart to use them as shelves or what do you use for the shelves?

The cubes dont come together in a cube shape. They comes as a single grid panel that you put together to make a cube using a round, white, plastic piece. No cutting required. You make as many cubes as you want and use the left over grids as shelves and attach those with cable ties and trim off the extra plastic. Take a look at these pictures if you want a better idea. THey aren't the best but they may help.

I use the quick ties too! I love the wire cubes from Target, I store all my bins and albums in them!

When you do cut the ties, watch out because they can be kinda sharp.

Also the shelves can be placed anywhere in the cube to make the most of the space.
