What's a sturdy CARDSTOCK that doesn't crack?

I'm new to card making and working with a Big Shot. I have only looked at paper and purchased cardstock in my local craft shops. I REALLY love the effects of embossing colored paper with a different color core or a white core, using embossing folders, textured plates, and framelits! But I can't seem to find a cardstock that doesn't crack, even when just scoring the cardstock to fold for the base of a card. I did see somewhere, to lightly spritz the cardstock with water before running it through my Big Shot, to emboss, and that does help! But there are still cracks which tear when I lightly sand the embossed paper :(. I'd really appreciate any in put on what is a good cardstock that is sturdy, with a different color core or a white core, that won't crack when embossed or foled, that is sturdy enough to feel like a quality card when done scoring and embellishing some. I don't do a tone of embellishing, but seems like even just a little, makes me cards seems flimsy.

Weft and warp.
Check the grain of the paper. If the paper is limber, that's the direction of the lay of the paper (the warp). If there is resistance that is the cross grain (the weft). Folding along the grain will result in less cracking.
Don't press too hard when scoring.

For card bases, I like to use 110lb. paper. You can get reams of it at M's or office supply stores. I don't have much of a problem with it cracking, but it is harder to score. I have to do it a few times and sometimes I get out of the groove. For a different color core, I like Core'dinations paper, but haven't tried anything else so I can't compare it to anything.

Don1 is right about paper grain. Sometimes using smooth paper for card bases is best. I like My Minds Eye My Color Cardstock. It's a heavy weight paper and doesn't crack. Also, I have found if I score my paper before I fold it there is no cracking, even with textured papers. Hope this helps!

I use white 110 lb cardstock also that you can buy at office supply or amazon by the ream. For color cardstock I really love Simon Says Stamp paper and My Favorite Things paper. It's so nice and thick but no problem folding. I also score before I fold though. You get a nice straight line that way.

Oh My! There are so many brands of good card stock out there. I use different ones for different applications. May favs: For Basic cards, I use my favorite--Neenah solor white 110# for card bases and 80# for layers; Ranger or Strathmore water color paper 140# and Express It & Neenah brands for using Copic alcohol inks. The above suggestion is correct, score before you fold. If your paper tears at the fold lines, it's not good quality paper. I press my folds hard. If you want a luxury smooth or white card stock, Gina K or Stampin' Up have excellent quality, as well as good quality colors. So does Simon Says Stamp. Bassill card stock is pretty good. If your paper tears when embossing using the Big Shot, either the sandwich is too much pressure or the card stock too thin or not good quality. Check You Tube for demos. Use a good cutter too. My all time favorite is Fiskars. I have two..one is heavy duty. Typically Designer papers are good for layers, not making 3D projects...they are thin and tend to tear. Coordination card stock is best for sanding. So, test and try......Hope all this helps.

I only use Stampin' Up card stock, I have to admit, it is what got me hooked on Stampin' Up!!!!

I agree, Stampin' Up! has great cardstock. I've not had any issues with it cracking.

I also use Stampin' Up. Their cardstock is 80 lb. and doesn't crack yet stands up nicely. Their original white (whisper white) was put through an extra process in order to get the great finish on it, and it turn made it not as sturdy as the others. However, they've since come out with a 100 lb. white that is just as sturdy as it's 80 lb. cardstock. It's the only cardstock I use for cards!

I agree with someone who previously said that scoring the paper helps a lot. One of the best tools I ever ever ever got was a score board and good quality bone folder.
