Hobby Lobby Prices

I ran out of 12x12 page protectors yesterday so I went to Hobby Lobby today to pick up a package or two. I have been using the American Crafts albums and protector for the last several years and have bought both at Hobby Lobby many times before. When I went in today, the protectors were $11.99 for 10. I thought that the first package had been mismarked and looked through each package after, nope, they were all marked the same. There was a Hobby Lobby employee working in the aisle, so I asked her if this could be right and I explained that the last several packages of page protectors I have purchased here had been half the price. She said if that was what they were marked,, that was what they cost - helpful. She then said that prices do go up - again, helpful. I understand that prices must go up, but these page protectors had been $4.99. After I got home, I checked the store here and the same protectors are $5.
Okay, rant over.

That is very strange. I shop at Hobby Lobby all the time and the prices are always really low. And Paper Studio is almost always 50% off - or so it seems like it. $11.99 for 10 is an obvious error!

I've seen some items in HL be awfully high. But then I factor in the 40% coupon they always have and it's about normal.

I don't think that's right, but I have noticed it several times.

I do 95% of my shopping here, and then I get coupons for M's. I love it that I can shop here and always find what I want and have it delivered to my door step. It's always like Christmas when the package arrives.

My biggest pet peeve - and all the box stores do it - Joann's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby - they mark things just slightly on sale so you can't use the coupon. Their coupons are awesome - 40% or 50% and Joann's had a 60% coupon this weekend.

Everything in my cart was on sale already. I bought my husband a nice candy bar for $2.00 and saved 60%. That was sad with all the expensive things in my cart which had been marked down.

Was disappointed at Michaels this weekend - used to have punches for 50% off. This weekend they were "Buy one get one 50% off"! Bummer.

Wow, I used to really love shopping at HL especially when the Thickers and stamps were 50% off, now they rarely are here in WI but can get 40% when they're on sale. I was really surprised that they don't take competitors coupons as there was a punch that I wanted to get with my J's 60% off, she said she'd give me 40% off but they don't take other coupons. Didn't they use to???? I'll go when all their paper is 50%, not just The paper studio and the kids love the stickers so I'll get some for them. I think all stores have their pros and cons but to go from $5.99 to $11.99 is absurd. On another note I was able to use my J's 60% off coupon at 2 M's one on a Dear Lizzy Project Life core kit which was regular priced at $29.99 but when I tried to buy a paper pack at another M's I was told they couldnt take the 60% but would knock it down to 50% I said no and left the paper there.

Yes the coupons are 40% off. But the prices are also 40% higher. The jar of modeling paste at M's was 19.99. same jar at a nearby arts supply store is 11.50. So the entire point of a coupon is to bring the price to level... and the only time it's actually cheaper is when they have % off entire purchase including sale items (ON TOP of 40% off). Then the sale is worth buying...
They had the entire purchase sale last weekend. I like to go in person and browse, though the items are all same stuff all the time and variety is not so great. And what did I find? a lot of things went on clearance. and guess what, % off sale doesn't count on clearance items! Spellbinders sets were on clearance from 29.99 to 29.90. How about that! clearance my a$$.

And they are the ONLY big box craft store in our neck of the woods. Unless you count one measly isle at Walmart as craft supplies. sigh..

So funny. I keep wondering if the Hobby Lobby had big legal bills to pay to defend themselves against the Obamacare mandate. Maybe they had to raise prices on some items for that.

And yes, some stuff on scrapbook.com is WAY cheaper than stuff @ a craft store or scrapbook store. I keep blinking every time I see the price of stickles on here. Only 1.99 per bottle? Wow! Michaels & LSS charge at least 5. Guess scrapbook orders in huge bulk & can offer incredible discounts.

As for page protectors, for years I found those at the dollar store (10 pack for a buck!) Now, I'm finding brand new, unused packages all over the thrift store! If they don't have those unused packages @ the thrift store you can always buy a newish album for 2.99, "steal" the protectors and donate the album back.

I've pretty much stopped shopping at Joanns for that very reason. They put everything slightly on sale, then give you a coupon for regular priced items. Grrrr. I wanted to get the 3-pack snail adhesive with my coupon, and was really surprised to discover their 3-pack was $12.99 while Michaels is only $9.99. That's a BIG difference! I never waste a Michaels coupon, even if there's nothing I want or need. I use them to stock up on adhesive. You know you're ALWAYS going to need those.

There are two paper studio punches I want and I have to get those at HL but I think they are 50% off. If not, I'll wait until they are.

The paper studio punches are not 50% off this week but I think chipboard, albums, storage, stickers (not Thickers) and spare parts....

I don't go into Joann's unless I have to. My Joanns' always looks trashed. It is not a pleasant experience.

the best thing I can say about J's is that you can use multiple coupons for things that arent on sale and then usually a 20-25% off total purchase.
