Hi everyone! This thread is a place for anyone who likes to make mini albums, or anyone who is interested in learning about mini albums, or anyone who wants to stop by to chat about mini albums to meet up! The thread can be used to share YouTube videos on mini albums, ask questions about the mini album process, or to share what youre creating.

And special thanks to Jess for the thread name! ) emoji
  • Tammy Bingeman Spruce
this has the potential to be an amazing thread!
  • Eapipkin
Hiya Kristine! It is a cute thread name!!
  • Kristine W
Hi Tammy! How are you? You're in the UK, aren't you? How's it going there with the covid-19 pandemic?

Elizabeth, I give all the credit for the name to Jess. She's the one who suggested it in the mini album swap thread!
  • Ppilgrim
Thank you for setting up this thread Krisitne! I just received what will be my last scrapbook.com order for a while and it's full of stuff for making yet another mini album! Seriously, perhaps what I need is some sort of mini-book 12 Step Program.

Are you still thinking of doing a TN swap? That'd be cool too because I'm also addicted to traveler's notebooks. There's just something about little books that I'm powerless against.

  • Kristine W
Yes, I am going to try a TN swap sometime soon, but not sure exactly when. What kind of mini album are you going to make now, Peggy? Do you have a certain paper or theme picked out yet? I still have two mini albums I need to make for my photos. One will be from my Guatemala trip and the other will be all of my pics of my dog. She turned 14 today!
  • Jess E
Found it! thanks for a new thread. Since we're here, i guess you could close the other one, or maybe post this thread link in that one, as the last post, then close it? I'm surprised it wouldn't let you edit it...I have on mine before....
  • Kristine W
Glad you made it here, Jess. I just closed the mini album swap so we can all post here and not worry about missing something on the old thread.

Yea! Thanks for starting this new thread. I loved making my mini. The folio, not so much. Has anyone ever made an altoid tin mini? I'm thinking of trying it. I've got a couple of videos saved in my YT lists.
  • Dawna.s Place
    Yes, sign me up Peggy!

Kristine great topic for this thread! I love mini's I have made quite a few and I have one on my desk now that has me stumped. Maybe you gals have suggestions for me so I can kick start it over the finish line. It's G45's Love Notes collection and I used their premade base this time around. I think there are 6 signatures, 3 pages ea for 36 pages. It also has 6 pocket pages for folios. By the time I decorated 4 of them (including tags, pockets, added folios, etc) they equalled the width of the binding (3")! Oops! I think I need to remove the 5th signature, but then the book will feel off balance. If I had realized that the base won't handle a fully decorated and stuffed composition, I would have removed every 3rd signature. Has anyone run into this problem before? If so, how did you address it? Here's the book I'm using: https://www.scrapbook.com/store/gf-4501685.html?w=G45+staples
  • Dawna.s Place
Lori, yes our friend Pam (Filibry) has done one. I can't seem to find it, but she did these tiny books for an altered tin project and they are only 2" big! That would certainly fit into an altoid box! Here they are: https://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=galleries&u=1388755&m=view&id=6190835&type=-1&start=72&size=0
Here's a little mini that she did of garden seeds and such: https://www.scrapbook.com/galleries/1388755/view/6337679/3/0/0.html
Pam is a master at working tiny!
  • Jess E
Dawna, I just looked and Sandi from Decor8yourlife has an album using this on her YT channel... just search the G45 tag and pocket album out in the search bar.

Lori, ArtyMaze has done a series on an altoid mini or JJ on her channel too. That's some tiny work!
  • LauralsAttic
Hello everyone. Thought I would stop in to see what the thread was about. Though I am not working on mini albums I am working on Junk Journals, traveler journals, and fabric books. Maybe I can learn from yall. I have several unused chipboard books so maybe I will give one a go when I am done with current projects that I have started. Or pick up one of the many unfinished books i have started and never finished. Either way I know I can learn from all of yall! I'm so envious you all can get to YT and Pinterest.
  • Kristine W
Lori, so glad you found the thread! Maybe you should open an altered altoid tin swap? I've actually thought about altering one before, and a mini book inside would be super cute!

Dawna, thanks for stopping by the thread and asking us for some help! ) emoji I have one of those G45 albums but I never used it because the pages won't open all the way. When I try, they rip from the spine. That could help you out though, if you were to remove the entire page block from the cover, you could remove whatever yo needed and re-space the pages. You might need to make your own hinge, but it would make the book easier to open anyway!

Jess, you are the YouTube video recommending queen! You've always got such good recommendations. I can barely keep everyone's channels straight! I think Nic the Booksmith might also have a few videos of tiny books.

Laura, so good to see you here! We would love to hear all about your books you're making, too! What kind of unfinished books do you have started?
  • Tammy Bingeman Spruce
Hey Kristine - yes I am in the UK, just outside Glasgow. We are on Lockdown and have been now for over a week. We are allowed out to exercise, get groceries and medicines - for no more than an hour a day. And no groups bigger than 2 unless they live with you in the same house. Of course we can be in our yards outside of that. No non-essential travel or shopping at all.

I am working from home (and this is my second week).

    How are things there?
  • Kristine W
It sounds like you guys in the UK are doing what we are doing here in many states. Most states (last I heard it was 38) have issued stay-at-home ordinances and all non-essential businesses have been ordered to close for several weeks. In Ohio where I live, we have been on this ordinance for a little over a week. It's not quite a strict as your regulations, but we have been instructed no groups (aside from family living in the same home), staying 6 feet apart, and only going out for exercise and essential tasks such as getting groceries and medications. Our surge hasn't it in Ohio yet, but it's pretty bad right now in New York.

I figured this would be a good time for creating, but unfortunately my back does not want to cooperate with me! I've been having lower back pain for the last week, and my run on Saturday did not help! So I'm taking it easy for the next few days and only doing yoga! Maybe I'l be able to get into my craft room later.
  • Dawna.s Place
Krissy, you must have a defective one, my pages open nicely, and the signature blocks are very secure no ripping or tearing. I'm afraid I'm too far along to replace the hinges and respace the book. I guess I will just eliminate signature 5 and finish up 6. It will be really chubby, but I can add a ribbon closure and squish it together! Thanks for your feedback though. Enjoy the day!
  • Ppilgrim
OMG, I can't keep up rofl emoji.

Happy birthday to your pooch, Kristine. Please give her a cuddle from me.

OK, the latest batch of mini-fodder to arrive in my post box was Vicki B's "Art for Everyone" 6X8 paper pad and the journal pieces to go with it. I also snagged a pack of Tim's latest tags. The paper pad has an acetate cover with cute stuff painted on it, so you know that's comin' off. wink emoji NO clue yet as to what I'm going to do with any of it.

I have made an Altoid tin mini using an accordion-style book adhered to the inside base of the tin. All you need is the right size corner-rounder and you're in business.

Ripping signatures out of books is a constant source of aggro for me. If I'm going to scrapbook in a TN, I have to do that, but some of them are kind of flimsy and don't come apart well. I've learned my lesson -- don't mess with the cheap ones.

What kind of folios are we talking about here: Tim ones, Heidi ones, or Staples ones? Yes, I've done 'em all. pensive emoji

QUESTION: Has anyone any helpful advice as to which weight of cardstock to use for hidden hinge bindings? I tried some Lawn Fawn stuff for my G45 Farmhouse mini because I wanted it to be sturdy, but it seems to be too stiff because the hinges aren't folding over as well as they should. Disclosure: I freakin' HATE hidden hinge bindings so I don't make them often.

Have a good day everyone. Fortunately, when we wake up tomorrow, it won't be March anymore. (I hate March too.)

  • Kristine W
Peggy, you crack me up! Is there any particular reason you hate March? I use regular 65lb cardstock for my album construction most of the times and I think the kraft cardstock is sturdier than the other colors for some reason. I've never had a problem with it. I bought 110lb black cardstock by accident once and it was so thick it cracked when I tried to score it and was too stiff to really use for the hinges. I used it for other things though!
  • Jess E
Country Craft Creations sells 80lb cardstock, which is what she and her design team all use. I have used the 65# too, and like it.
I wish people here in the states took this more seriously.... between the Pastor in FL, teens on the beach for Spring Break, and then there was a tail gaiting party near work, that is actually on video. We have no limitations on total amount of time out shopping, but I can tell you, I wish craft stores were open! They're good for my mental health status, LOL!
  • Jess E
I was thinking, for fun, we could do a folio exchange, along the lines of Ginger's from MySister's Scrapper..... I have three sets of awesome retro kitchen paper from Authentique (I think) to make one of her's. ) emoji
  • Kristine W
Jess, can you post a link of one of Ginger's videos so everyone has an idea of what folio you're referring to? Are you wanting to do a swap?
  • Eapipkin
Well, although I don't make mini albums or folios, I'm all caught up on the thread!! joy emoji

Jess, I had to go to Costco today and I stopped by our Hobby Lobby. They are closed! Bummer. Lots of places are closed. So, I just scored up not spending any more $ and went home! Didn't even try Joann's. I'mpretty sure they would be closed also. Gas was down to $2.35/gallon at Costco. I filled my tank, wiping down the nozzle handle and key pad for my pin # with wipes. The attendant was going around with spray and paper towels too which was nice.

I made a couple of birthday cards and envelopes yesterday and today.
  • Boricuapr
Hi everyone!!! So glad I found this. Thanks to Jess and Kristine for sharing their enthusiasm to start this thread!

Well let's just say that I won't be going to ANY HL again! Any company that endangers their employees by forcing them to work despite mandatory shutdown and excluded treatment for Covid 19 from their health plan because God talked to CEOs wife has totally lost me as a customer. Even hubby's jaw dropped when he heard about HLs total disregard for public safety.

I'm on week 3 of WFH and today they started webinars with WFH guidelines followed with Q&A and sharing coping skills and connectivity issues. One very interesting bit of information was knowing your upload and download capacity from your provider vs. device because you can have over 20 items in your home connected to your wifi - newer appliances i.e washer, dryer, refrigerators, stoves, microwave, not to mention tvs, and all their new devices - ie apple tv, roku, netflix, scheduled dvr recordings, cell phones, etc. They recommend that once connected to webinars, skype and zoom to close Outlook/Gmail because they are constantly updating in the background. I'm guessing we'll be WFH through April and may not get back to office until mid-May.

I still haven't received my album kit from Pine Cone Press Designs ( emoji Left several messages, but no response. I wouldn't be so concerned if it was for me, but order was placed using donations from co-workers to give to another co-worker's son for the Make A Wish Foundation trip.

My heart goes out to all our SB friends in medical field.
  • Jess E
What is WFH? how can HL stay open if there is a mandate to close? Our's closed Sat, a week and a half ago.

This is a search on My Sister's Scrapper YT channel.... this is just for folios, but if you want to see all of her videos, just click videos https://www.youtube.com/user/mysistersscrapper/search?query=folio
  • Kristine W
Jess, WFH means work from home. I read the article about HL, too, and just shook my head. Some Jo Ann's are still open since they're giving out fabric to make face masks for communities to use in the shortage. I'm not sure if any of my craft stores are open. I haven't gone to check.

Linda, glad to see you found the thread! Maybe Pine Cone Express is closed due to the pandemic. I'm surprised they wouldn't have a recording about it, or get in touch if your order would be delayed. Where is the make a wish trip to, and when is it?

Did anyone read about the post office possibly having to close as early as June if the government doesn't help with a bailout?

Elizabeth, good to see you here! Maybe one of these days we will convince you to try a mini.
  • Eapipkin
Our Hobby Lobby closed on March 27 according to the sign on the door. I didn't check Joann's. I hadn't heard about the post office possibly closing. Good grief, I hope not!

Well, it's time for me to go walk on my treadmill....be back later!
  • LauralsAttic
Several in the works. All fabric/lace books, Lace Junk Journals, travel journal, chipboard or tag Mini albums, Folio, etc. I'm working on a Gaudy jewlry one now to hold all the tales of you and me embellies. it will most likely be the only one i'll ever do! They are heavy even with my chipboard I used as the base. I have had the stuff to do them for years but never got around to it. So my goal this year are getting them done! Next year it will be mm projects just sitting and waiting to be done. Bought the products and that was as far as I got. I always have something I am working on!
  • Kristine W
Sounds like you'll be keeping busy for years to come, Laura! ) emoji
  • Ppilgrim
Kristine, if you lived in Alberta, you'd know why I hate March. It was -30 C with the windchill here when I got up this morning and that's an improvement over the last week of March. March is the longest, coldest, most miserable part of our 6-month-long winter here: it's infamous for horrific blizzards and prolonged cold-snaps. At the equinox, when everyone else is starting to think about spring, we know we've got another month of misery to go.

Uh-oh, there's a link to Ginger's YouTube channel on here. The woman's the worst enabler ever: all of her projects make me want to go out and buy stuff! I can't right now, so I'll just avert my eyes from the link.

"Joanne's is closed, HL is closed, M's is closed "-- boo-freakin' -hoo y'all. All we've got here is a pretty naff Michael's and it's been closed for weeks. SO, spend your money (if you have any) at scrapbook.com. For some reason that defies all logic, they've been declared a "necessary business" so they're open and happy to fulfill your every scrapbooking whim. Unless the postal service shuts down and then we're all pretty much hooped.
  • Tammy Bingeman Spruce
    jci - love Ginger!
  • LauralsAttic
Hello everyone! DGS taking a school break so I nabbed the computer for a few minutes! Hello Ginger! After all these years I did not know that was your name.
Hopefully not years Kristine! Just this year! All projects that have been on the back burners. I just finished and posted a Gaudy Victorian one today. Like I said, each one different!
Hope everyone is well and that your back is better Kristine!
  • Kristine W
Laura your new book is gorgeous! What will you be using it for? I decided last night that I need a book to take notes of an online photography course I'm doing. I'm going to post my photo assignments in the book and journal about each assignment along with my class notes. It'll be a good go-to resource for later!

Peggy, I completely understand why you dislike March! I am very tempted to buy all of G45's new dies, but will restrain myself for now!

Tammy what are you working on right now? Any exciting projects?
  • Tammy Bingeman Spruce
I lot my post with my answer Kristine - trying to figure out how I want to do my Florida pages - do I want to do a mini ablum of the week pre-cruise or jut bit so it like Discovery Cove - I could do a mini album of that.
  • Kristine W
Sounds like you've got options, Tammy! I can't wait to see what you create!
  • LauralsAttic
Kristine I have no clue! LOL I'm just working on getting them done then I will figure it out. I was suppose to be doing Lafayette antique show in June and had planned on taking a few up there to see what happens. I do the show/sell every year but its usually antiques only but last year they have started allowing other stuff. But with all this germ warfare going on it will most likely get canceled. But still want to achieve my goal of 10 books to use up some vintage textiles and old stash..
  • Kristine W

It's not a mini album, but it is an entirely handmade book, and it's my Graphic 45 Brand Ambassador audition project! I would love for your feedback on it. The tutorial video is live on YouTube (it's an hour long), and I'll be submitting it officially to Graphic 45 here soon! I'm so excited to be finished and a bit nervous, too!

  • Jess E
It's beautiful Kristine. I started watching your video, but had to pause it and then I'll finish watching it tomorrow. My computer is almost out of battery power right now.
  • Kristine W
Thanks, Jess. Feel free to fast forward through it, it's a long video!
  • Kristine W
Good morning! I saw this new video today and had to share. It's a cute way to use up some little scraps and looks super easy to do!

  • Eapipkin
Good morning gals. Just catching up on the chatter! I need to take a look at your book, Kristine!

I love your Victorian book so much, Laura!! It is beautiful!

I lost a crafting friend from Facebook overnight. She had a massive stroke a few days ago and apparently developed pneumonia. She was such a sweet lady. About 3 years ago I sent her some lace fabric from a dress I bought at the Salvation Army and in return she supplied me with a bag of lace and shimmery fabrics as well as metal embellies and a gorgeous shabby flower she made. I had been using her embellishments lately but hadn't been able to part with the flower. So sad. She didn't papercraft, but did a lot of lace books and shabby projects. Very talented.

I have several cards to photograph and post that I've made over the past few days. I finished the front of my cards for the pocket letter. I think I am going to add inspirational messages on the back.

Peggy, I'm sorry your March weather was so bad. Ours wasn't the best either, although it was milder than usual. This month has been weird too. We've had temps down to 16 degrees a couple of mornings.
  • LauralsAttic
I'm on a book slump. Pulled them out, looked at the for an hour, and put them away. Think the sunshine sounds better! Going out to the yard today!
  • Kristine W
Sorry to hear about your friend, Elizabeth.
Laura, I do that, too. I will sit and listen ok at my stuff but nothing comes to mind sometimes. I hope you ar more productive outside, even if it's just enjoying the sunshine!
  • Jess E
So sorry about your friend Elizabeth. That's so sad.
Laura, I'd love to be in the sunshine too, but I don't even get home till about 6:00, and while it's sunny, it's got a cool breeze blowing. Hubby is off tomorrow, and we'll probably work together outside after I get home, and it's supposed to be warmer.

Will go look at your link Kristine! THanks...I love seeing what other's find too.
  • Boricuapr
just a quick drop in to say IT ARRIVED. I can't wait to start the cruise boat chipboard album!!! So - help please - is it better to use liquid or redline tape to adhere base paper to chipboard face??? gotta walk the dog bbl
  • Kristine W
How exciting Linda! When I make my own chipboard pieces, I use my tacky glue. I've never tried using tape but I'd be concerned if it would hold up over time. I tend to place glue over the tape when I use it in albums.
  • Boricuapr
Kristine - just watched your tutorial - OMG LUV that you go into the details and awesome tips!!! Good luck with the audition!!
  • Boricuapr
Elizabeth - sorry to hear you lost another friend ( emoji

Peggy and Elizabeth - I feel bad for complaining morning temps were in the 40s. Nowhere near your low temps.

Jess and Laura - Did a little multi-tasking of pulling weeds while dog was out doing her business and enjoying laying in the yard soaking up the sun, then back in the house to keep working. The yard keeps getting put on the back burner. We new this would be a project since we bought it in foreclosure and it had been vacant for almost 3 years. It really needs to be cleared to the dirt leveled and new sod added, but don't ant to do that until after we start/finish our next project - remove the concrete patio and redo with with stone/pavers. Original owner had extended patio with 14x14 concrete blocks that are now sinking. We had to remove pine trees that had bordered the patio because they were dying. We hope to start the patio next year since the roots should be decomposed enough to pull out one we remove the concrete slab.

Tammy - I promise to get some layouts posted to the Volume challenge by this weekend.

Dawna - I need to get to your gallery and leave some much deserved love!
  • Tammy Bingeman Spruce
No pressure my friend - never any pressure to get layouts done.
