Ultrasound preservation?

I'm not sure if this is where I should post this question but I have several ultrasound pictures and I wanted to know if anyone has been able to preserve them? I know they cannot be laminated because of the type of paper used...any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

scan them and reprint them on photo paper. they will reproduce fine.

Yes, scan them and print them on regular photo paper. (Do not photocopy- that will ruin them).

I scanned mine high res and had them printed on photo paper.

Most ultrasound photos are printed using a thermal printing process, meaning heat sensitive paper goes through a special printer that heats the paper (burns it) where the image is supposed to be. You will ruin your ultrasound image if you heat it.

Wanna see what I mean? Take a register receipt (one of the ones printed on shiney paper with black "ink" and iron it. It will turn black everywhere. Even just leaving it on a warm surface will make it change.

Scan them and the have them printed with your regular photo's. The won't last if you don't.

And I just ran across mine from 18 years ago and was going to put them in the book. Glad I read this.

So, cool laminating is okay? So, could you use one of those self laminating sheets from Walmart? I just found mine from 18 yrs ago, too, isn't that funny!

Yes, you could use one of those self laminating sheets without damaging the photo. Your best bet, though, is scanning and reprinting because thermal paper will darken if it gets near a heat source for a long enough time. Happens to me all the time when I leave reciepts too close to my laptop.

FYI, my vehemence comes from watching a clueless co-worker ruining a woman's only copies of the u/s pictures because he wouldn't listen to "do not heat laminate thermal pictures".

Trust me they go all black if they get hot. I had an ultra sound done at 7 months just to check on my son, (i was in the hospital) anyways they gave me a copy and I just added it to his baby book and I had the book sittin on the computer bottom and it wasn't even that hot but the pic went black! nothing there so I would make a copy just to make sure.

wow...guess I'm lucky that our U/S clinic prints our pics on photo paper and also gives us a copy on cd.

yeah do not use anyhting hot on them. Mine were ruined form my first son. also do not touch them too much I was so sad when I looked back and they were ruined. Scan on high quality and print thats the best way to keep them

I took mine to walmart and scanned them and printed them...for my 3D ultrasound I scanned them, put a border around them, and put his name on it....I wasn't at all happy with my 3D scans (so expensive and mine didn't turn out as well as some) but once I did that I was happy! I kept all of my original scans but I also have them all printed as photos as well.
