Scrapbook Rooms...Your Craft Tables!

I have been looking around Target.com, Walmart and even ebay and I cannot seem to find a practical craft table.

What do you all use? Do you have any suggestions for a good, sturdy craft table that wont cost me an arm and a leg?

i bought a table (wood) from a clearance center in houston fo $99 it is a dining table...was the one for the barstools, but g'pa cut down the legs on it...works like a charm. ...depends on the amount of room you have too. when i didn't have a room i used the lifetime HD plastic table from sam's ...but not good for support to use die cutting machines or to press hard on...i still don't have an actual room now, but my garage is my space and i love it! check it out in my gallery if you'd like. good luck. you can look the gallery too at other people's spaces.

I use the 6 ft long ones from Walmart, you can get them at Sams too, I have a 6 footer and then a four foot one at an angle, You can see it in my gallery, I use a cropadile now to set eyelets so I dont need any pounding on plastic tables.

I found a table at Ikea that I've been eyeing for a couple of months. It's got saw-horse legs and the best part is that is has the regular desk part, then a 3 in divider on top then a glass table. I thought it'd be great for laying out LO ideas and such.

This was a topic last year.

The synopsis was that people used small desks, small kitchen tables with straight legs, folding tables. One gal had pegboard attached to one side of the table legs to hang stuff on.

Tables were bought at yard sales, Good Will/thrift shops, used furniture stores, or were recycled from other parts of their homes OR from other relatives.

Someone had a piece of glass put on the entire top of her table for a better work area, easier to clean up. Under the glass she had pictures or directions. You could put pretty fabric, wall paper, or oil cloth underneath to match your decor.

I would also think that if you have a tile top table, you would need the glass so it would be a smooth work surface.

I have a counter top supported by 2x4s and screwed into the wall. It is L shaped and I got it at a yardsale from a new house (people rejected the pattern, just little black letters on white). My Iris carts roll under it.

You can buy ready to install counter tops at Lowes or Home Depot in a variety of sizes. You could even use some of that composite board (MFP?), any size to make it custom, and buy the sheets of laminate and DIY.
You could use that and lay it over two file cabinets set apart for leg room. Makes it easy to move and is not bulky.

Just some ideas to get you started thinking.

I use a folding table from Sam's. It works great. But I don't have a dedicated scrap space either.

My sb stuff is in the guest room. I use an Americrafter's craft table, which I can fold up if needed. It's also light and easy to move. But it's not sturdy like the other craft tables.. I have the MM instant setter so no need for me to use the hammer on it.

I have the Madison Trestle desk from Target and I Love it! It's sturdy and has additional storage.

I use a fold up table, which I love cause I don't have a designated scrap space so I can fold it up when it isn't being used.

I've got 3 tables...one is a glass topped patio table our neighbors gave me when they moved, one is a 5 ft resin table and the other is an 8 ft. brown table like you see at schools (bought it for $20 at a garage sale!) I have the three table set up in a "U" shape in my unfinished basement. I use two for storing stuff on top and the big brown one as work space. It works for me! I use the long fold up table. I have a designated craft room since I took the dining room in our house as my study/office. I leave it up and I actually went to target and bought their 7 drawer craft cart on wheels and I store stuff in that under the table. I also have a little bit bigger one right beside it and an old $20 tv cart from Wal-mart where I store my paper in a 2 drawer 12x12 sized container for my paper and some of my office supplies.

To me it definitely serves a purpose.

I've got a large full size heavy wooden ping pong table~ Love it, it's the perfect size for me!

I made my tables from two hollow closet doors. We used filing cabinets on one end and brackets attached to the wall studs for the other end of the table. It gives us lots of room to work and was very cheap since the doors were being discarded anyway.

I am loving the trestle table thing from Target and I like that you can get matching stuff. I am thinking more of an office for me in my scrapping room. Yay, thanks ladies!!!

I have banquet tables on sale from Staples. One is 6 feet and one is 8 feet with a 4 foot table in the center forming a "U".

I have two tables from Staples, both are 4 feet, one is more expensive -- it is adjustable because I like a lower work surface, its just easier on my back, it is also pretty heavy and sturdy and I can use it to set snaps, etc. (I still am loyal to my hammer) -- the other is just one of their folding tables. I do have other flat surfaces in the room for the sizzix etc. and my best friend scraps at my house, she uses an antique (not valuable) dining table I had, but she is considering replacing it with tables like mine. We just rearranged, I'll have some pics in my gallery soon!

Do you want a standard-height table or a counter-height table? (Are you a standing or a sitting scrapper?) Determining that will narrow down your choices pretty well.

Pottery Barn has a great (counter-height) craft table but you can get knockoffs at Target or Ballards. Target is the better deal and looks just like the PB one. I got mine at Ikea - a standard-height table - I have the Markor dining table. It's solid stained wood in black-brown and I also have the matching desk and bookcase, and I also have the Expedit in black-brown and some Lack shelves in black-brown - they all look really nice together.

I like having the whole dining table as my craft table because I not only spread out side-to-side but in front of me too. And I have room for a big lazy susan for my tools, as well as a small (15") television and some drawer units, right there on the table with me.

I purchased what is a shelf from Menards Hardware store...I pd like 12.99 for it, placed it on some storage cabinets & made a table...You can see it in my gallery...I like it so much, I purcased a 2nd one & now working on getting a larger rm done for scrapbooking...

My hubby built mine for me, and painted it the color I wanted. It's 6 1/2 feet long, 2 1/2 feet wide. I have pics in my gallery, and as you can see I use it for the computer as well. I've added some stuff since the picture was taken, it definitely looks busy now. lol

chocodlite, that was a great idea for a work table!

I have a drafting table that I use. Its got lots of little trays and what not attached to put things in to keep out of my way while I am working

The Masdison table is the one I plan to order.

What I have been using for everything for the past ten years is a school table. I adjusted the legs up as my son grew. It's been moved at least a dozen times, lived in the garage as a kayak rack, on the patio as a picinic table, it can support an adult's weight - and it still looks good. Those plastic storage bins fit perfectly underneath it as well. Different sizes and shapes can be purchased at school supply shops. I'm putting in my bedroom when I decorate the craft room (formerly the computer room.)

I have the 6ft table from walmart. Works great for now, but I do plan on getting that crafting table from Ikea one day..maybe christmas

mine is an old 8' door with whiteboard adhered to the top so i can make lists or whatever on it. it's GREAT! My dad and I made the whole desk- top and drawer towers- check out my gallery for the pics- gotta love the teal drawers!

I have a wood table from Ikea--they sell the tabletop and the leg separately. Mine is pretty old so they don't sell it anymore but they have others that are similar. Our LSS uses tables from Ikea as well and they seem to hold up really well and they look like nice wood instead of plastic. HTH!

I have an old dining room table that has drop/slide out ends it can go from 4 feet to 6 feet. But it is rarely at the 4 feet because it is always covered. It was my DBF's table when we got together, then he got his grandparents table for the dining room and I got this one for my scrap room. Check your attic or storage shed. May be able to find something great.

I was using an old door as the tabletop and two two-drawer filing cabinets as the base when I had my sewing machines out. I got rid of the door and stacked my filing cabinets when I stopped sewing. Now I wish I had that old door back again. It was very solid and sturdy.

I use a drafting table, it is huge and I can spread my stuff all out. My husband is a painter so we share it and there is still room. we have a small house so we got rid of our dinning room table and moved in the drafting table.

My DH made me a desk from a hollow core door. He built a 2x4 frame with 6 legs. The hole in the door for the handle is great for my power cord. I decopgd the top. A photo of it in my gallery under craftroom folder.

I have the tables from Ikea that you buy the top and the legs separately, about $60.00 total.

I have 2 of them together it's about 12ft. I love them they are super strong, and have good depth.

I also use ready made counter tops from Lowe's that hubby installed. He built two shelving units for the L shape to sit on. One to hold papers and the other to hold drawer organizers... I have pics in my gallery as well.

I converted a deep closet into a scrapping space and I used a piece of countertop for my table and have adapted the shelves to fit my stuff.

I use a small wooden table. I won't mess it up a lot and I have a craft mat to use to avoid mess and when I clean up I put everything in its place and then I put the garbage on the mat and put the pieces in the garbage.
