3x5 photos

Do any of you get 3x5 photos printed online? I'm frustrated by attempts to put multiple 4x6 pictures on a LO... they take up too much room and can't always be cropped w/o losing too much. I think 3x5 (or smaller) would fix the problem. I don't have a photo printer at home and can't afford one now, so that's not an option.

Or, is there a way to take my photos and meld 4 of them together, print it as 5x7, and then cut it into 4 smaller pictures?

When I see LO with tons of itty bitty photos, did they print those at home, crop the heck out of a bunch of 4x6s (expensive!), or is there a different way I'm missing?

I get some of my photos printed at Ritz as a 4x6 + 2, which is a 4x6 and two wallets. Then I use the 4x6 to make calendars for family members at Christmas. I just started doing this and only use the small wallet size on a LO that has tons and tons of photos. You can lose a lot of detail with the wallets, so I still have the most important pics printed a larger size. I don't think Ritz prints in 3x5, but you might check Snapfish, Shutterfly or one of those online services. This is actually a good idea that you have! Sorry I can't be more help.

I shrink my photos in photoshop and put them onto single 4x6 canvas and save the whole thing together. There's tutorials out there for it.

Sometimes if I want to use a lot of pics and don't have room, I scan and print at home or go to WalMart. If you scan two 4x6 pics together, save it as ONE 4x6 you end up with two 4x3's. Does that make sense? The scanner will save whatever you scan as a 4x6, then just cut them apart. It makes them half the size. I scan at home, then print at home or Walmart, or you can do the same thing at the store on their machines.

The Kodak machine at our local Walmart, it's a kiosk, does mini prints on a 4x6 sheet. you can get up to 9 mini prints onto on or as little as 4 mini prints on a 4x6 sheet.

I print at home and use Picasa, you just choose whatever size you want.

Even when I'm printing at home I'll put multiple photos on one sheet so I don't waste expensive photo paper. If you have graphics program, put your photos onto an 8 1/2 x 11 (or 8x10) and resize to the sizes you want and use up all the space, (you can get quite a few 3x5's and other sizes on there) and then get the photo lab to print it out. Then you can cut them apart at home. I haven't had to print outside from home, but I have heard people say this is very economical and you can get "odd" sized photos like square, round, star shaped.

Thanks for the help! I don't have Photoshop or a photo-quality printer, so those are out of the question unfortunately. I do use Picasa, but all of the online printing options start at 4x6. I'm investigating their collage option- that's a good way to print minis.

I'll look for a Kodak kiosk and see about those minis.

be careful about the Kodak kiosks! Some of them the quality is horrible! Avoid the ones that print out in seconds.

You can get them in 3x5 at Winkflash. You get them in about 3 days

scrapbookpictures does 2x2, 3x3, 3.5x5 I've never used them but now that i know they print in odd sizes i'll give them a try. I've heard nothing but good things about them though.

wow, great thread! i have been wondering this for a while! i tried putting 2 pictures into a 4 x 6 and the quality was horrible. thanks for all your tips ladies, they were very helpful!

I love using the 3x5! I never got them printed anywhere but home. Hubby does them for me! Lol

I've tried the collage function in Picasa. It's great if you're printing at home. I had it printed at the store, and it crops the image, so you end up losing quite a bit around the edges.

I typically upload my photos to Walgreens pharmacy, so I don't know if other developing services offer this. You can add a border to your photos. There are several border options, from thin to very thick. This reduces the size of your image, without cropping or distorting.
Walgreens also offers a wallet size (which I think is 4 prints on a 4x6). I don't do this, because the image has to be same, and I usually don't need 4 of the same.

I get mine printed from snapfish and I put that I want 4x6's and then at the checkout it will detect which pictures are digital. They will then ask if you want your digital pictures reduced down to 4x5. By doing that, they are able to fit in the whole picture so there isn't a whole lot to crop. Does that make sense? Maybe someone else on here uses snapfish and can explain it better than I can.

I'm doing my first exploding box and needed small pictures. I ended up putting 2 shots on one picture in PSE, then have them printed out at the Kodak site as 4x6s . That way I got 2 3x2s for the price of one 4x6.

Is Winkflash a service like Snapfish or Shutterbug? Has anybody tried these services? Do you use them for storage as well as printing photos? Home printing uses cartridges so quickly and I'm not always pleased with the quality. HELP!!

No wonder I don't have time to scrapbook...all these graet ideas keep sidetracking me lol

I miss the days when getting 3x5s was as easy as checking the box when I dropped off my film at the drug store! OK, I don't actually miss that... everything about photos and photo developing is better now.

I just went through this at Wally world, and a girl their got it so that I had 2 pics on one 4x6 sheet. We went to Disney and had 321 pics to develop!! Let me tell ya it was great to have the pics smaller and NO loss of the pic either!! Then for focal point pics I just made some coppies of other pics in 4x6 so now I have mult. pics on one page without cropping! Just to let you know I did my crpooing at home and did the processing on a keiosk that you get the pics right then and their and they came out great and the ones that don't you can redo and not pay for!!

I take a disc with pics to CVS and print out 2x3 photos when I want to get a bunch on a lo. They only charge as if it was a single print, because 4 of them fit in a 4x6 print. You can also do two 3x4 to a print too.

I print my pics out at costco. They let you make your own photo packages so you can choose a 4x6 size or a 5x7 and then pic however many pics you want to put on that sheet at the machine, its pretty simple and cheap too! I printed a ton of pics for christmas, including 8x10, 5x7, and 4x6 about 120 in all and it cost me 25ish dollars!

I don't know about combining sizes on one bigger sheet, but, if you just want 3.5s, PhotoWorks does those, too.

I just discovered the new Shutterfly Studio that lets you make collage prints in a ton of configurations! Just wanted to pass that on. Thanks for all the good ideas.
