Red Sizzix dies in Big Shot

My red Sizzix machine is on its last leg. So, my hubby bought me a big shot .

I can use it just fine my Cuttlebug embossing folders and my Spellbinders.

I am having a terrible time finding the combination of mats, shims, etc to get it to cut out a die-cut for the red dies. I can do the green and blue dies fine.

It is the red dies that I am having issues with.

Can anyone help me?

Are these the thin red Sizzlits (some of them came in black, but others are red), or the thick red Originals? If it's the latter, they're the same thickness as the green, blue, and yellow dies (as well as the Bigz dies) - I've never had a problem with any of those on my Big Shot; make sure you're using the clear cutting mats that came with the machine instead of the single white pad the big red machine uses. If it's the thin ones, the mat combination should be spelled out on the Multipurpose Platform that came with your Big Shot.

If they're the thick dies, are they the type with scoring lines? For those you do need a special cutting pad instead of one of the clear ones, and may need to experiment with rotating the die relative to the rollers in the Big Shot.

These are the original Sizzix dies where you can feel the metal die in between the foam where the "die-cut" is.

I have tried rolling the die backward and forward several times. It does not always cut always the die-cut thoroughly. I have to use scissors or exacto-knife to finish cutting the die-cut out.

How strange, I've never had to do more than a single pass through to get most of the Originals to cut - just once in a while with the scored dies. Not sure what to tell you.

What do you use besides the red die and the cardstock to run in the Big Shot?

Maybe I am using the wrong plate, mat, etc.

My sandwich is just one of the clear pads, then the die (face-up), then my paper, then the other clear cutting pad, then I crank it all the way through the machine.

My one die I was trying to use. I realized it is warped on the end that was not cutting. My husband built up that end and now it is cutting all of the way through.

I tried some of my other red dies. They were perfectly!!! One run thru!

I was having trouble finding the right "sandwich" combination. Thank you for all of your help.

I read this and was getting scared as My Guy wanted to get me a Big Shot too! I love a Happy Ending Ladies! Sorry your die is warped but Happy your Hubby helped tho!! I have used my other red dies without ANY issues. No problems at all. I guess I really have used that one red die out so much that it was warped. Thank goodness for our hubbies to help us out.

Go for the Big Shot! I love it for my CB embossing folders, Nestabilities dies and the original Sizzix dies. I only have one actual Big Shot die ( the mini purse ).

LindainNCtoo What do you use the mini purse for? I love the little 3D boxes but I never know what to do with them.

I had an Amazon gift card to cash in. I saw that mini purse die. It reminded me of the one that SU! has. I thought I would get it.

I have not tried it out yet.

I thought I would use it for a pick-me-up for co-workers or party favors at crops.
