Digital prints with date photo taken printed on back - who does this?

Topic Closed
  • Kathy Heilmann
I need to print a ton of digital pictures from a variety of events/dates/etc. It would make my life a whole lot easier if I could get the date the photo was taken printed on the back of the photo. This information is encoded in the digital file, so it seems like it should be easy enough to do. Most photo finishing places print the date that the photo was printed on the back, but this won't be very useful for me. Alternately, if I could input a text string that would work as well. I would prefer not pay an arm and a leg to get these pictures printed, either. Any help is most appreciated.

Have you thought of incorporating the date into the file name?

I accidentally set my digital camera to where it prints the date on the front of the picture. I didn't like it at first, but I usually end up covering it up anyway with embellishments.

I have added the date to the name of the file and then sent to shutterfly for printing. They will add the name of the file onto the back of the photo when you print. This is how I remember when the pictures were taken.

I use the date on my camera also. I like that it's there, my memory is awful these days.

what do you set your camera on to put the date on??

Shutterfly also puts the file name on the back along with some info, which in all my photos, does include the date, its a funny format, but its on there. Also, Shutterfly has the best site and service that I have found. I also have been very happy with the quality and the speed of shipments. They often send Coupons as well. I've ordered photo books from there and they are awesome, way better than kodak.

I think Costco does too, but you'd have to upload them in batches.

You should be able to go into set up or settings and turn the date feature on or off. Check your manual. I leave it off because I like to get close to my subject and it always printed over important parts of the pic.

I have gotten pics back from somewhere that had the photo info printed on the back. I can't remember which company did it though, sorry.

It looks like Shutterfly will do what I want it to do. I looked in their online help and found that by default it will "backprint" the filename and date, or you can go in and edit the description for an individual photo or a group of photos and it will print it (120 characters). This is great! I had been using Snapfish but I think now I will switch to Shutterfly!
