If you are old enough, you probably remember Polaroid photos. You probably remember pulling the film out of the camera and waving it in the air to dry while waiting for the photo to emerge. You may also remember the disappointment when the photo didn’t come out very well, as many of them didn’t. Those square photos were perfect for putting in the little photo albums we had back then, and the white part on the bottom was perfect for writing a little caption.
Polaroid cameras have long since been replaced with newer technology. However, the nostalgic appearance of the square Polaroid photo with the white space at the bottom is one of the latest trends. This trend extends from digital photo sharing to scrapbook pages. Although the Polaroid frame trend can be used for any subject, I like to use them for school-themed layouts.
For this layout about my son’s good grades, I used the Maggie Holmes designer fabric frames from Crate Paper. Note that the frames don’t just need to be used for photos; I used one to frame the journaling also.
I decided to use a Polaroid frame to add a small picture of my son to this page which holds his elementary school diploma. I wanted to use a frame from the Portfolio collection Photograms from Pink Paislee, but I couldn’t find one that said exactly the right thing. I ended up trimming off the pre-printed words and adding my own caption with small alphabet stickers.
If you don’t have any of the Polaroid-shaped products, it’s very easy to make your own. Just trim your photo to a square shape and mount it on a white mat, leaving a large border at the bottom. You can hand-journal on the bottom or use any type of letter stickers or embellishments.
I hope I have inspired you to embrace the nostalgia of the Polaroid frame and on your scrapbook pages. Don’t forget to share your work in the gallery here at Scrapbook.com.
