Funny Birthday Cards You Have To Make!

Every year, we have many opportunities to celebrate with cards. One of the big ones throughout the year is someone's birthday. We crafters often have to face that age-old problem of simply not having enough time to make birthday cards for all of our special loved ones.

Well, it's Mona to the rescue! Pick one free weekend in your calendar and prepare all your birthday cards with me! I will show you how to make multiple simple yet amazing birthday cards, all at once. Let's get started!

See the complete list of products and supplies at the bottom of this post.

There was no doubt in my mind that I would make my birthday card project with the Celebration Bundle by Scrapbook.com. There are lots of funny or silly sentiments in it, and the cake stamp images are just beautiful.

First, I prepared the card bases. I folded my pre-scored Neenah cards, and then I cut 4" x 5.25" pieces from the Spring Fling 6 x 6 paper pack*.

Tip: Whether you prefer working with 12 x 12 scrapbook paper, or 6 x 6 packs, save the leftovers and scraps for any one of your next projects. You'll find some really creative ways to use the spare strips and pieces in another card!

Using the 2nd largest die from Lawn Fawn's Large Stitched Rectangle Stackables set with Neenah Solar White cardstock, I ran several sheets through my die cutting machine to cut perfect stitched rectangles.

When it was done, I started the stamping process on my die-cut rectangles.

First, I stamped the sentiments from the Celebration Bundle. For the stamping, I used various colors of Scrapbook.com's exclusive premium hybrid inks.

Tip: If you want to speed up your stamping process, don't forget to use your stamping platform. I use my Tim Holtz for Tonic Studios Stamp Platform* almost every day!

Next, I stamped the fun images I'd chosen from the Sweet Celebration stamp set (this stamp set is included to the Celebration Bundle). I wanted to add a softer look for my images, so this time around, I used the Leather brown hybrid ink pad.

I also stamped the images to a sticky note, and fussy cut them to make simple masks.

Tip: What an awesome, simple way to create amazing scenes and stacked images - sticky notes! Stamp directly on the sticky note, and then fussy cut so that you can create scenes full of overlapping stamps and blended backgrounds with ease!

After masking, I added soft ink blending with stencil blending brushes*.

Next, I added splatters with watercolor.

Tip: To contain your creative genius when using splatter effects, an ordinary cardboard box does the trick nicely. You can splat, dot, and splash to your heart's content because the brilliant results will emerge on your project but not your craft space or work surface!

Once my watercolor drops dried, I carefully removed the sticky note mask.

The next step was coloring (yay!). I used my alcohol markers, then added highlights with a Signo White Uniball pen.

Before putting my card together, I wanted to add one more cute element with the Happy Summer Lawn Fawn stamp set, so I stamped the ants to the colored-in images with Black Hybrid Ink.

In the end, I adhered everything together, and my card was ready to go!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and don't forget, you can mix these sentiments with any stamp set from your stash. Make your cards unique! I can't wait to see what you will create!
