My mom made scrapbooks for herself when she was a teen. She made them when she got married and she made separate ones for each kid. I still have the scrapbooks she made for me when I was little - with photos and birthday cards and letters from dad as he was traveling, and I am lucky enough to have one very old one from when she was a teen. I always loved the idea of scrapbooks and started my own when I had children. Unfortunatly, they were all lost.
In 1999 all my photos and scrapbooks of my own children were lost by Mayflower moving company. Not a single photo of my children made it, other then the few that were framed. Their baby clothes (and my dads!!) and momentos, all lost. That is the ONLY thing they lost - 3 boxes of priceless memories.
I am blessed that my 40 year best friend had a lot of photos of my children, which she pulled out of her own books and gave to me. My mother had a lot too, I was able to borrow and scan. Though they are not my own personal photos, I was truly thankful, and made due with them.
Several years ago I bought an HP photo printer/scanner. Since then, I have spent countless hours scanning thousands of old photos - not just of my kids but of my parents and their old family photographs and any relative photos I found with mother. It's a huge undertaking but I will never regret the time I have put into this.
Back to that Mayflower disaster -- Somehow, I did have a box of negatives that made it with me in that move, and I've hauled them with me till this year when the kids gave me a negative scanner for mothers day!!! If you need one - I highly recommend the Cannon Cano-scan 8800. Now I am scanning hundreds of nasty old negatives and trying to make the best I can of getting my kids photos together. When I lay a strip of film down, I truly never know what i am going to see pop up on my monitor!!
But I love to scrap, and lately it is my blood pressure medicine!! Our little Scooter helps me whenever he can. However he usually finds a way to stop me from scrapping and pay more attention to him by laying on my layouts and pretending to be asleep. We are sure that scooter thinks he is a cat.
