On current floats the soaring eagle
With minute efforts of his own.
Above and through the canyon regal,
Where millions more ere for him flown.

With sharpened vision ever searching,
For his quest that shadow hides.
Circling, watching, never perching,
Catching a timely up draft, glides.

Waiting for a faltered scurry,
Of some unknowing mouse or hare.
Talons grab in cautious hurry,
Both meal and diner take to air.

A price we pay to watch an eagle,
May seem cruel to tender heart.
But life’s a circle with nature single,
When prey and hunter play their part.
