It was a grey Monday evening
When I found out that you had arrived
Growing slowly and steadily inside me
You were already the apple in mummy's eye
I waited for the weeks to pass
Until I saw you on the screen
You were already my precious boy
Holding all of my hopes and dreams
You grew and grew and I felt you move
But you were still so unaware
That a chapter in my life would send me to despair
you helped me through my toughest year of tragedy and loss
But in the coming days and months
You showed me who was boss
It was a grey Thursday morning
And you gave me such a fright
What with one cut and then a tug
You were born into the light
But one thing that I will promise
When you look back on your life
As my own mummy whispered to me
I will sit on your shoulder to guide you on your flight
