Dear I know I’m far from thee
Trying to do my bit for our Liberty
But I sometimes wonder if it’s all worthwhile
When you try in vain and cannot smile.
Then a picture comes before my mind
Of all the dear ones I’ve left behind
Then, I know that our cause is just
And I’ll help preserve it, though fight I must.
I had no urge this far to roam
In foreign countries so far from home
But in this state of emergency
I know I’m needed far over the sea.
I’d rather fight on these foreign soils
Than to have our country become the spoils
They have started something we must stop
And we’ll never let the Nazi race on top.
I’ll do my bit and when all is o’er
I’m heading right then for my country’s shore
Back to my home and a wonderful wife
And there I’ll settle down for the rest of my life
I’ll raise a family in a country free
And pray there is never a World War III
I hope and pray my dreams come true
And all the world will no longer be blue.
