Some photos I took of my DGC, Katie and Adam back in November. For some reason the bg cardstock looks pink - but it's actually a light tan. I made the leaves using several colors of Ranger Inks trying to get some "red" leaves. I then added a few veins to the leaves and inked the edges with a dark brown. There's a tutorial on my blog for more explicit directions - http://susangoetter.blogspot.com
The word Climbing is some chipboard letters I've had forever and the word trees is just some rubon letters. I cut thin strips of the red to use as a border and then one edge is cut with the Fiskar's scallop edge punch. I added a doodled border and that finished it up. Simple, quick...and I got to use 6 photos on the page!
The poem is called Climbing Trees by Amy Lowell and reads:
High up in the tree - climbing I go,
with the sky above me, the earth below.
Each branch is the step of a wonderful stair
which leads to the town I see shining up there.
Climbing, climbing, higher and higher,
the branches blow and I see a spire,
the gleam of a turret, the glint of a dome,
all sparkling and bright, like White Sea foam.
On and on, from bough to bough,
The leaves are thick, but I push my way through;
Before, I have always had to stop,
But today I am sure I shall reach the top.
Today to the end of the marvelous stair,
where those glittering pinnacles flash in the air!
Climbing, climbing, higher I go,
with the sky close above me, the earth far below
I've also included a little journaling that is slipped behind the large photo and reads:
I wonder if you two realize how lucky you are to be growing up in the country. You can look out your back door and see a huge backyard with lots of places to play. You have grandparents that live next door and cousins on the other side. You can hear the crickets at night, the rooster in the morning, chase fireflies in the summer, and sometimes you even see a deer wandering around down by the creek. There are trees in your yard and in your grandparent’s yard that are perfect for climbing, and you do that every chance you get. What a wonderful experience you have every time you walk out the back door!
