Description: I have scrapped the top picture of Granny several time in several different ways..It is the only pic of her that exists as a young woman. Granny was a remarkable woman who made a tremendous impact on my life and every one in our family. She was born in 1881 in Carroll County Virginia when she was just a small child there was an epidemic in the country and 5 of her siblings died within 10 days. She told stories to us about how her mother had to wash and dress each of the children and put them on the porch for the death wagon to pick up and bury in unknown mass graves. The family along with most of the county was quaranteed. This must have been so very devistating. I have her mothers bible with the birth and death dates of the children. Granny and her younger brother along with 5 other siblings survived. The family moved to Sullivan County around the turn of the century coming in a covered wagon even at that late date in time. I have so many stories that Granny told me that I am trying to compile for future generations. As I said Granny was one of the most wonderful people I ever had the pleasure to know. Granny married in 1901 m;y great grandfather James Peters They had one son Albert and Granny was pregnant with my grandmother in 1904 when Great Grandfather who had been working in the fields of their farm came in the house got a drink of water and fell dead. My grandmother never saw her father. Great Grandmother Dona lived 64 years longer than James never marrying again and raising her 2 children alone. As a child my grandmother raised me and I slept in the bed with Granny who I will never forget wrapped my feet in the tail of her gown to warm them. She said I had the coldest feet she ever saw. One night Granny said to me " Someday I will be going on a trip and when I go I want you to have this little bed." I said where are you going granny?" and she just sighed. I have that little Iron bed to this day. As Granny got older she said alone and knitted and did needle work and she whispered to herself a lot, we always wondered who she was talking to know I somehow thank it was James. Granny lived to be very old and I remember sitting by her death bed and she held her little thin hand out and took mine and shortly after died. I will never forget her and the things she taught me and I miss her so very much even though she has been gone for over 40 yrs now.. I love you granny and you always remained beautiful, physically and in your heart.

Carol, what a wonderful layout. I'm sure your grandmother looks down and says "my but my girl is talented". You are so lucky to have had her in your life. I never knew either of my grandmothers and never have seen a picture of one of them.
