Description: My Great Grandfather John Booher was quiet a character according to my father. John was the son of Civil War Veteran George Booher and Great Grandson of Martin Booher who fought with Andrew Jackson at the famous battle of Horseshoe Bend. John was a farmer like all of his forebarers and he intorduced the first tractors and modernized equipment to our county in upper east Tn. I have pictures of his old steam powered tractor and many of his papers. I have alittle ledger where he kept records of how much he sold when he sold his crops. He was also postmaster of our little community and I grew up playing in the old house where he had lived and the old pigeon holded postal case was still there, but the old house burned in the 1990s and lost everthing...That old house had been standing for over 150 yrs when arsons burned it, and almost killed my Uncle who was sleeping in it.. Daddy told me an interesting funny tale of John, he said that after our great grandmother Melissa died that John who was elderly himself at that time. decided that he would try and find himself another lady friend. Daddy said that he took some old worthless confederate money that his father had brought back from the civil war and wrapped a real bill around it and went to the area Country Store when he knew a certain lady would be there, he said that he flashed the big roll of money around hoping to get the attention of the lady and it worked because Lucy became his second wife. It was said that he was quiet the ladies man...I think he was very handsome.
