A very exhausting adventure.....   (2 comments, 19 views) Sunday, 17 February 2008

So, I have an appointment at the hand doctor. Need to get a cortisone injection for my carpal tunnel as it’s been giving me a lot of pain and numbness. I know I will be waiting at least an hour to see the doctor, so I take with me a book a friend of mine wrote and published. I never seem to get the quiet time to read at home, so this seemed the opportune time.

As I open the book and begin reading a woman sitting next to me starts talking to me. She is a 'doctor' originally from Russia, lived in Israel, speaks 5 languages, and had an opinion on EVERYTHING in life from child rearing to politics. At one point she said to me, quite seriously, that "she is a doctor, and she can tell from looking at Pres Bush that he is not just stupid, he is really RETARDED"! She went on to say, "imagine, the Pres of the US is a retarded person"! Now, I'm not saying that the diagnosis is incorrect, but I marvel at how the determination was made!!!!

She finally gets called in to see the dr and this man, who was listening to our conversation the whole time, (he's waiting for his wife getting PT), starts talking to me. I JUST WANTED TO READ MY BOOK!!!!! Well, he is retired and has been “ALL OVER THE U.S.” and so he decided on taking me along for the ride! We visited the Grand Canyons, the seaport at Boston, Mass., his family’s home in Missouri....I was freakin exhausted.

Alas, his wife was finished with PT and as I opened my BOOK for the third time, the nurse called me in to see the dr!!!!!!

Dr. gave me the trusty injection.

I asked the receptionist to call me a car service; she does; I wait outside....no one coming. So I decide to walk the four blocks to a bus stop and take the buses home...a long ride, but hey it's early in the day. I get to the freakin bus stop and who is sitting there waiting for the same bus, the Russian 'doctor' who diagnosed Bush for me! Holy moly....there was no way I could deal with her for the 1/2 hour ride. I was able to sneak away and found a seat a few rows back in the bus. Fortunately, she can speak 5 languages, 'cause I could hear in the distance her saying to a cute little boy, "como se llamo"....

By this point, I was exhausted from my tour of the world; my brain was overflowing with information it never wanted nor did it seek; I welcomed my solitude and quite time.....still did not get to read the next chapter!

So there ya have it...probably why I stay home most days....going to the dr can truly be an exhausting adventure.

That is the funniest thing I have read all day! I know exactly what you are talking about! Usually happens to me on a long flight! And there isn't anywhere to run on a plane! ;o)
