For My Valentine   (18 comments, 3824 views) Wednesday, 07 February 2007

I recently went on a scrapbooking adventure. I don't usually alter things, but I found these products among my stash and decided I HAD to try to create something fun for my Valentine :)

Here's it is:
(see a larger, more detailed view in my gallery)

lovebox_320

Supplies used:

BasicGrey Lunch Pail Album Kit
3 Bugs in a Rug Smitten Collection

3 Bugs in a Rug Flower Patch Clear Stamp Set
Lil Davis Metalic Paint
Heidi Swapp Florals

Bazzill Really Big Brads
B&W Gingham Ribbon
Assorted Ribbons

3L Scrapbook Adhesives EZ Dots 6-Pack Adhesive (my favorite)
Matte "Modge Podge" Medium (available at your local craft or hobby store)

Basic Instructions:

1. Sand the lunch pail a bit to rough it up so it takes the metallic paint.
2. Wipe the entire lunch pail down with a damp cloth and towel dry.
3. Apply metallic paint all over in a thin coat using a foam brush. (allow to dry completely - overnight recommended)
4. Lightly sand the entire lunch pail. removing some of the paint in random places to create a distressed look.
5. Select which patterened papers you will use from the collection and trim them to fit on the front, sides, and back of the lunch pail. I left about an inch at the top and bottom all the way around the pail.
6. Using your matte "modge podge" medium, adhere the patterened paper to the front, sides, and back of the lunch pail (you may want to use a brayer to completely remove all air bubbles so your patterned paper lies completely flat.
7. Cut two 1/2 inch x 12 inch strips of black cardstock. Starting at the front-center of the lunch pail, adhere one end of each strip in the middle so they line up but do not overlap (a flush seam). Contiue adhering them around the corners and sides of the lunch pail to the back and trim each strip to create the same "seam".
8. Using the clear stamps, create any design / pattern you'd like stamped around the bottom and place the stamps on a clear block so you can see where to place them. Choose a paint color and apply it sparingly to the stamps with a foam brush. Start stamping anywhere on the black cardstock strip, but start off center, in case it doesn't meet up perfectly at the end.
9. Cut a piece of patterned paper from the collection for the top of the lunch pail. This takes some measuring in order to cut a piece from the center to allow for the handle to come through. Take your time and use a knife and cutting mat for precision corners and to keep your patterened paper from wrinkling.
10. Adhere this piece to the top using your matte medium and bray it down for a flawless look.
11. All the major parts are now adhered to the body of the lunch pail. Cover the entire pail with a thin coat of matte medium and allow to dry competely (again - overnight is recommended to avoid stickiness and pulling of paint...)
12. While you are waiting for the lunch pail to dry you can make the other parts shown above. For the tabbed dividers, choose which patterned paper you will use on each. Flip over the patterned paper and place the glossy side of the tabbed divider face down on top. Trace and cut out carefully. Repeat for each tabbed divider front. Adhere with adhesive.
13. Choose which photos you'd like to use for each tabbed divider. Print them in B&W and 3x5. Adhere the photos to the right side of each tabbed divider and embellish with other fun things from the kit (tags, stickers, monograms, etc.)
14. To create the mini tag book hanging from the front of the lunch pail, choose your favorite tag shape from the tags included in the 3 Bugs kit and trace it five times onto white cardstock. Cut out each tag carefully and trim the edges with metallic paint (I used a Q-Tip).
15. Cut pieces of black cardstock and patterned paper from the kit to fill most of the tag space, round the corners and adhere to the center.
16. Choose five more photos you'd like to use and print them in B&W as small thumbnails. Use a 1 3/8 square and circle punch to remove them from your contact sheet.
17. Adhere one thumbnail to each tag and embellish as you wish.
18. Using a Crop-A-Dile, or other hole punch, place all five tags together, with your template tag on top, and punch a hole through the entire stack.
19. String the mini book with ribbon (your choice) and set aside until your lunch pail is dry. (You may want to connect them with a brad as I did above, and then tie the ribbon to the brad for an added embellishment.)
20. Place two Heidi Swapp florals together, on top of one another, and use a big brad to keep the two together and to create a flower center. Using your clear stamps, choose a small design and apply some paint. Stamp the design directly onto the brad face.
21. To make the flower "pop" from the lunch pail, I used TWO layers of adhesive foam squares and stuck it in the lower left corner of my lunch pail.
22. Once your lunch pail is dry, apply your flower, place your tabbed dividers inside, and tie the mini tag book to the left side of the handle.
23. Finally, finish the pail by tieing various ribbons in various widths and patterns to the thick part of the handle and to the smaller stainless attachements on the lid of the lunch pail.

You're Done!

You'll notice you still have a TON of materials left from the 3 Bugs kit and paper inserts and plasic sleeves left from the BasicGrey Lunch Pail kit. Use them to create additional layouts that you can file behind each tabbed divider to make a complete album. HAVE FUN! You can also use your finished project to store supplies, like stickers, clear stamps, rub-ons, etc. or you can use it to file recipes and receipts. The possibilites are endless!

I hope this has helped spark some creativity out there :) E N J O Y!!
