Big Blog Challenge - June 19th: "Animal"   (6 comments, 20 views) Thursday, 19 June 2008

This is how I got my two black beauties.

I had a wonderful kitty named N’tasha she was the perfect cat except that she would through up every once and awhile. At first it would be hair balls, food, then it would be foamy yellowish stuff. We could not figure out what it was. It had no rhyme or reason to it. Back a forward to the vet we would go. Around about the spring of 2007 she started losing weight. So back to the vet we went. We had all kinds of test done for a senior cat, and still nothing. By the fall of the same year I took her back to the vet and that is when we found out the problem. N’tasha had cancer. It was the kind that was very hard to detect and usually by the time that it is detect it, it is too late to do any thing about it.

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 I was on the computer before work and I was receiving some of my N’tasha Kitty Loving when my husband came in the room with us. N’tasha was almost skin and bone by then. I looked up at my husband with teary eye and ask him if he thought it was time to have her put under. My husband did not want to say yes. But then N’tasha wanted to jump down off my lap. She just crumbled of my lap and smashed onto the floor. It just broke our hearts. It was time.

After it was over I was very calm. Almost to calm, to the point that I was afraid to drive home in far that I might have a break down on the way home. So while I was in the parking lot at the vet I pulled out a flyer for kittens that need homes I got from the vet’s office. When I called I spoke to Karen. She and her husband fostered cats for local shelters in my area. I told her that I wanted two cats, a brother and sister if possible.

She was giving me a list or different brother and sisters she had. By the fifth group she said that she had a brother and sister that where 7 months and black. I think right then I know they were the ones for me. I said you have black cats. She said that she did not know how I felt about black cats but they are very sweet. I said no, I did not have a problem with black cats. I said that I was jus surprised that she was adopting black cats in October, because of Halloween. The SPCA does not adopt black cat in October because there are people who do bad things to them because of superstitions.

She said that they had all of their kitten shots and they were just fixed. She said that she named them Chloe and Clyde and that I could change them if I wanted to. I wanted to. She said that she and her husband were moving back to Tennessee and she was bringing the first group of cats in for check ups and shots on Thursday before she left. She said that if I wanted to see them she would make sure that they were in the first group. And if I wanted them I would take them home on Friday. I said okay, and then she told me that they were $95.00 each. Now that is not a bad price for cats that were fixed and all the shots were taken care of for a year. But how was I going to tell me husband. The only thing he was going to see was $190.00.

Oh, I did not mention how I fell in love with them before I even meet them. They were 7 months old in October. So I said that they were born in February. And Karen said yes on Valentine’s Day as a matter of fact. My husband and I were married on Valentine’s Day 2004.

Now I went home and told my husband everything about the cats. I told him everything about them except how much they cost. Well he did not ask. I would have told him if he asked. I had the whole thing planned as to what I was going to say about how that price was a bargain. Now that I look back at it, it was really strange that he had not asked about how much they were going to cost. We went through the process of naming them. Now I always wanted a black male cat named Nubian. But I like the idea that they were born on Valentine’s Day so I was coming up with some cute names. One was name the girl Val and the boy Tino, so when you said Val & Tino together is would sound like Valentino. My husband said, why not name them after me; Nubian & Princess because he said that I was his Nubian Princess.

We were going through the name process for the next couple of days. We were coming up with different names and having friend, family and even co workers in on the process.

Thursday when I went to the vet to go meet them I was so excited. Karen was bringing in all kinds of carriers with all kinds of beautiful cats. I am so glad that I had fell in love with my babies before I meet them because I would have had a really hard time trying to decide. When she brought my Boo Boos in I was trying my hardest to get a good look at them through their carrier. She took the carrier, opened it up and pulled out the little girl. She went right in my arms with out far in the middle of the vet’s office. She was so cute, sweet and so royal. She was definitely now a Val, she was a Princess.

Karen was so happy that they took to me so well that she was ready to give them to me that day. I told her that I would wait until Friday, because I know that I would not go to work the next day and I just took off Tuesday for N’tasha and I did not bring the pet carrier with me. That night we decided on the names of Nubian Princes and Princess Sheba.

Friday after work I went to the Wawa, it is a 24 hour convenience store that also sells gas, across the street from the vet and got $200.00 from the MAC for the cats. I went across the street and waited to Karen to come. When she came she brought the second set of cats that need to come to the vet before their move to Tennessee. After they were all situated the technicians went a got my babies. We put them in my pet carrier. Made sure all the paper work was done, name changes were correct and vet information was up to date.

Well now it was time to give her the money. I pulled out my billfold took out the money and was handing it to her, when she said, “Just give me $60.00.” I was in shock I could not believe what I had just heard. I literally was standing there with the money in my hand and my month open not knowing what to say. My eyes just watered up and when I looked into hers they were watering also. We just embraced each other and started crying in the middle of the vet’s lobby.

Okay now you have me crying. I am such a cat person, and due to circumstances I had to give my three cats up about 3 years ago. They were so cool, and I loved them very much. They all three went to good homes, but I think of them often. When the baby gets a bit bigger, I might be able to convince Trey to let me get another cat. :)
